    Default Updated zire 72??

    Hi guys,
I am wanting to get a zire 72 by the end of the year, but I want to know if palm might be releasing an update of the 72 or a new zire model all together by that time - Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks alot.

Hello palmzire 72 and welcome to Brighthand!

From the information that is leaking out of Palm about their Fall 2005 line-up, it doesn't look like there will be a new high-end Zire handheld launched. There is a rumor floating around about a Zire 73, but most folks don't believe that it is credible.

It does look like Palm will introduce a new low-end Zire, the Zire 22, but that doesn't sound like it will meet your needs.

I had for over a month also waiting for more info on the new Palms. Once I saw there would be no camera or voice recording on the new TX, I was ready to get the 72S. Went to Office Max and it was on clearance! $199 and they had a Belkin Leather Flip Case on clearance for $2.50!!

So far - after 3 days - I think it's great. I own a Dell Axim X30 also - it's been my main PDA for a year. Word docs look better to me in Docs to Go than in Pocket Word. It's easier to get appointments in the Palm and easier to set Tasks. There is a lot to be said for simplicity. The camera for stills and video is much better quality than I have been led to believe by some of the reviews. The screen is wonderful.

I had gone from a Sony to a Axim especially for the WiFi and I found I never use it. I'd much rather pull out the laptop to surf. Avantgo is something I can't live without though.

I did get the one year extended warranty - especially after reading about some peoples problems with the Zire. At $199, it's unbeatable!

I have to admit that the Zire72 is a sweet PDA. I would love to have a really good camera in it (maybe trade the voice memo which I never use for a better camera) but overall it's great. The major bug with the delayed lock causing a hard reset is nasty, but I've got around it by simply having the unit lock as soon as it's turned off. One other thing that would be great would be built in wifi. But as the comic said, "you can't have everything--where would you put it?"

Palm has seemed to have taken the position that they can't put the best everything into the devices like cameras, voice recorders, etc. So, that is where Bluetooth comes in. If you can use your cell phone as a voice recorder, you can Bluetooth it back to your Palm. Same might be true for digital cameras and digital camera photo printers.
