Default Help! Zire 72 won't turn on - ack!

You all have always been so helpful when I have a problem with my palm Zire 72, so I'm hoping that I'll get the answer I need here.

This afternoon I went to turn on my handheld and it wouldnt turn on! I don't think it's been all that long since I charged it, but maybe. So... I plugged it in. The little light at the top left turned on so I assumed it was charging. I tried to turn on the unit and it still didnt turn on. I left it on the charger all afternoon (@4 hours). When I got home this evening it still wouldnt turn on. I tried a soft reset and then a hard reset - neither worked.

Please advise what to do next?! My LIFE is in this thing! (luckily I have all data on my desktop).
thank you in advance for any help you can offer

    Welcome to Brighthand, MelindaT.

Did you perform an In-Cradle Soft Reset? While device is connected to main power source (not just USB) poke in the Reset hole in the back and leave the device untouched for at least 3 hours. The device will turn OFF per the usual settings. After 3 hours have passed, try to turn the device ON & then check the Time/Date settings. Your charging circuits will be recalibrated as a result of the procedure.

If this does not bring joy, please advise.

Probably - battery disconnection, or battery drain.
You'll have to do eather if it doesnt turn on.

If all that does not work send it to us for a free evaluation. I know the PCB (motherboard) for that model is $55.00.

If you still have no result when trying to turn device on, after trying all of the steps listed above, then you may just have to accept that there is something amiss beyond that which we can diagnose/tweak here.

Shawn Lux has offered to diagnose for free; another choice would be to contact Chris Short & see if he can offer any more suggestions to try before sending device off to be diagnosed/repaired by either of these two gentlemen.

I tried turning my zire on again today - plugged it in and OHMYGOSH - it turned on! Enough time for me to say "hi baby, I missed you" and then it promptly died again...
I think it's time for me to check out Chris Short.
    Thanks, Lelisa!

MelindaT - this has often been overlooked before by other people at times like this and I apologise if it sounds a bit basic, but you have checked that the wall-socket to your charger has not accidently been turned off if it is out of reach or sight?

lol! thanks, Nine. Yes... the charger IS working. Actually, I've tried my travel charger as well, just in case there was something wrong with my regular one. The light on the left hand top corner on my Zire goes on when I'm charging, so I'm assuming it's getting a charge into the unit.
