How to copy CD's to SD card

I bought a young friend of mine a 1GB SD card and told him I'd copy his music CD's to it.

I have mp3 files in my HD that I know I copied from the CD.

But, even though I once managed to accomplish that task I can't seem to remember how I did it

His CD's seem to be copy protected...and mine, apparently, weren't???

Can someone tell me, in a nutshell how to do this? First I guess is the problem of get the files on the CD converted to mp3. The files on the disk, when viewed from "Explore", are .cda.

You need some ripping software.
I personally use Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) but that may be a bit too complex for you. Try dbPoweramp (http://www.dbpoweramp.com) or Musicmatch jukebox (http://www.musicmatch.com/download/p...put&BTD=1&DID=)

Thanks for all the links but I, just recently, discovered that I could rip the music using Ms Windows Media Player; by selecting the MP3 format option.

Yes, you can do it with Windows Media Player, but WMP has a tendency to add DRM even to files you rip yourself, and possibly send reports to Bill Gates about what music you like.

That would be a bummer because I don't like the music I'm ripping; it's for a friend.

But with is DRM? So far the CD I ripped to mp3 format seemed to work ok.

DRM is Digital Rights Management, which is a technology that prevents piracy. It works by reading license files that control how many times the file can be played and who can play the files. Without the license files, the songs cannot play.

If the MP3 file appears to have been successfully created during the rip process does that mean it will work or is it controlled by this DRM technowlegy?

Can it be played, but only x number of times? Or is it that it can be copied only x number of times?

DRM is mainly for use for online music stores. So I doubt it that you applied DRM onto mp3s. You can play them as much as you want, do whatever with it.

It should be OK. I actually have not heard of any DRM that works on MP3s. It is mostly used with AAC and WMA formats. WMP tries to strongarm users into using Microsoft's own formats and default preferences, and it can be tougher to configure to the way you really want it than software like iTunes is.
