Cannot use Palm Portable Keyboard with Zire 71
Hi,
I cannot, after the first installation of the keyboard drivers, use the keyboard, nor delete the drivers, nor reinstall new or old keyboard drivers, since the old drivers exist on the Palmheld. When I choose the Keyboard application and try to enable it, it immediately gives an error alert: Fatal Alert: util.c, Line:1023, No serial library.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem?

Hello, welcome to Brighthand
Did you disabled the keyboard driver before removing the driver?

Thanks. They were never enabled and still they couldn't be removed. Then a lot of weired stuff happened, something about "error when using transformations" and "hotsync operation was interrupted. Some of your data was not backed up" or "The older Palm Desktop cannot be removed. Contact Technical Support".Originally posted by NetBrakr

I basically googled and used Windows Install Clean Up to remove Palm Desktop, reinstalled and then installed the new keyboard driver 1.93. So that problem is fixed, although it took me a whole day.
Now I have another problem. When I hotsync, my outlook calender, notes, to do lists are not synced, although no error alerts are shown. What is that about? I have chosen outlook as my default calendar.

Firstly, if you do not have this on your handheld, get FileZ. It's freeware and available everywhere.
Secondly, perform a WARM reset. Hold your up button, and while that is pressed, press the reset button on the back of your device. Let the reset button go, while still holding the up button. When the palm reboots and takes you to the preferences screen, release the up button. Hit home, and open FileZ. Locate the keyboard driver file. Delete it.
Problem solved.Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
Tablet: Kindle Fire
The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Firstly, I want to thank you all for offered advice. The problem is now resolved and was due to that I had another user, that is my laptop name, than that which was registered in Outlook, i.e. Palm Zire 71. Once renamed to Palm Zire 71, hotsync functioned. Once that was solved, I discovered that Quick Install and Palm Desktop was replaced by Pocket Mirror. So I re-installed the new Palm Desktop 4.1.4 - new hotsync errors came up. These were solved by an utility called hotSyncCheck.exe.
I must say that the cd-installation is very bad designed, since Pocket Mirror replaces Palm Desktop & Quick Install and vice versa. When you install Palm Desktop, Pocket Mirror disapears, installing Pocket Mirror, the other two disappear. It's a catch 22.
