Default Saving files from SD card to desktop

I've looked through my Zire 71 manual and can't find a way to transfer or save files that are on my SD card to my desktop. It seems like this should be part of the hotsync process but I don't see anywhere these files are saved on my computer.

I have more files on my SD card than my Zire has memory so can't transfer them to the handheld and then hotsync. I'm also thinking of getting a larger memory card and would like to find a way of transferring data from the old card.

    Thanks,

    Jim

True, PalmOne Desktop doesnt transfer back to the desktop on the SD card, but I have three options for you. You can get a card reader (hardware), Card Export (software) or the free option, PFB (software).

PFB, its doesnt acts like a flash drive (Card Export does act like a flash drive), you will need to open a program inorder to access the SD card.

PFB allows you to access the files on a PDA with Palm OS?
under Windows and with no need of an running Hotsync operation.
It works for data in RAM and ROM, but as well on further memory cards!

Just wait for a couple of seconds until the download dialog box appears. Dont worry, there will be an english version inside of the zip file.

I've never tried the software solutions, but the card reader works great.

Another alternative to a card reader would be this:

W/o requiring you to lug wires around, it's great for on the road connectivity with a PC USB port

Here's the link to Card Export II. Not free but it works well. I also have a Lexar Jump Drive Trio which acts as a card reader/thumb drive.

Either using the card reader or Card Export or the other free software sure beats moving files via Hotsync. It takes seconds not minutes or worst yet, hours (if you're moving lots of mp3s). Of course, it will still take minutes if you're moving several hundred MBs of stuff, not seconds.

Yep, card reader is 15x faster through USB 1.1 and 20x faster through USB 2.0. There's too much overhead in sending info in packets and performing error checks that slows HSing waay down.
