why doesn't my palm zire 71 come on?

i've had my zire 71 for about a year now (warranty's just expired a few weeks ago) doh. and now it refuses to come on when i press the power on button. it happened a few days ago and i thought it was the battery so i charged it up and then it was ok. then next day, it refused to come on. it's not like i was constantly using it the whole day so i don't understand. anyone got any ideas what's happening?

It is possible that your cradle has gone bad---you may not be getting a complete charge from it.

This morning my pda would not come on, it was completely dead. Last night everything was fine. Ive recharged it, and had to resync it with my last good hotsync, but everything was gone. It looked just like it was out of the box.

This is frustrating, and concerning. If my pc would just shut down and lose all data occasionally I dont think Id use it.

I just hope this is a one time thing, my zire 72 is only a month old.

I havent loaded an new apps recently, and it was almost fully charged last night.

I guess Ill spend the next hour trying to recreate my calendar.

Did you lose data, and have to do a full resync of your last hotsync? Let us know if you have any luck figuring out what happend to cause your problem.

after trying soft/warm/hard resets in the case this doesn't help (you still see notheing on the screen) you have to check your power cource. Check that everything is situated correctly. Also, i f you have voltmeter, check the adapter's and zire's voltage. it should be ~5v(adapter) and 3.5-4.5v(zire) If still have a problem - write again and we well thing about something.

i am having a similar problem with my zire 71. i recently won it in a game of poker and when i went to turn it on it didnt work. i bought a new charge/sync cable and attempted to charge it but it didnt do anything either. durring this i also tried to hard reset it but there were no results. so as of now i am left with a zire 71 that refuses to do anything at all.

does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it?

if not, then something may just be loose inside its case. i tried to open it myself but the only things i could figure to remove were the two t4 torx screws at the top back of the casing when the camera is slid out. anyone have any ideas on how to open the zire 71 so i can get to its internals?

Ok, here's the step by step instructions you should perform to chech and <maybe> fix this problem:

1) If your unit doesn't come up under any conditions - the most reasonable thing to suspect - is power.
a) check your adapter. It should be aobut 5-5.2 volts
b) check your credle: The first and the last pins should give you same 5v.
c) check voltage on the pins on zire itself.
Even if you don't have a voltmeter, you can touch the pins with your tongue, it's harmess. you sould feel little sour. However do NOT try to touch the creddle or adapter with your tongue !!

If the problem is in creddly or in adapter - you know what to do.
If not - that means you wil have to open your palm. Do a search here on th e forum you will find some link to instructions on how to open z71, or see some details Here
After that measure the battery voltage, it should be betwee 3.7 and 4.2v. If it is lower , or zero - the battery is a problem and most chances that units itself is OK. But if you have a correct voltage - just check that everything is properly connected to everything else. Also try to disconnect the battery and then connect again after 1/2 hour.
