Distorted Sound Audible w/Internal Speaker
while waiting for my MP3 kit I tried to play audible player files on my new Zire71, and the sound came out quite distorted from the speaker (like when you put high volume on a cheap device), I mean, the voice is there but you can not really hear unless you put it close to your ear, like an old radio, and if you can live with the distortion.
It seems the internal speaker is not designed for this or, perhaps mine is deffective?
what is your exprience in the subject?

No, the internal speaker is primarily for alarms. You can play mp3s and whatnot through it, but the quality is probably worse than AM radio.

but with headphones
are you able to get good quality sound on your mp3's?
I just bought a cheap headphone set, tried the audible, and sounds acceptable, but the high volume is still low.
Is this also true for the mp3 once you have the expansion card?
If so is there a way to get higher volume???
Thank you!

with headphones
I've heard from other Zire 71 owners and experienced myself that even with headphones the output is not loud. The sound quality is great on my Zire. Maybe the difference is the quality level you're using?

Re: but with headphones
The RealOne mp3 player software that came with the Palm installation CDs is not a great software. I find the songs sound very flat and soft.Originally posted by ibole

I'd suggest trying Aero Player or Pocket Tunes. They have a volume boost feature as well as equalizer, which can enhance the sound quality. But, if you wish to listen to mp3s, you'll have to register after the trial period. Otherwise, if you encode your music into ogg vorbis format files, you can use either players without registering.
For more info on ogg vorbis, Aero Player and Pocket Tunes, do a search in the forum and you'll come up with lots of postings on that.

Also, certain headphones work better than others. Personally, I have a pair od Philips "around the back of the head" style that are Zire blue and cost $15. They work great. Of course they could be louder, but as long as I'm not in a crowded bus terminal or anything, 100% is way too loud. There are also some really good Koss earphones that mold to your ears to block out all other sound.

I'm using some Sony earbuds with extended bass ($7.00 @ Sears) and like I said, the sound quality is great but I agree with ignavia the sound volume is too low to compete with a lot of background noise. I'm going to try Aero Player or Pocket Tunes. Any preferences out there for either one?

Both are good. Try both and see which one you like better since it's all based on personal preference. I prefer Aero Player with the T skin because I can fit as many titles on the display as I can.
