Default palm takes flying leap and lives

Was at a daylily club meeting yesterday. Was WOWing members by showing slideshow of my daylily seedlings on my Palm while others held up 35 mm slides of their seedlings to the ceiling lights and tried to see. Many members came up to me just to see my Zire! When taking it from my purse to show someone, it slipped from my hands, flying a good 2-3 feet into the air, landed on a table, slid across it, and down to the floor, which was concrete. My heart stopped. I picked it up, opened up the case, and turned it on.... and saw a lovely image of one of my daylilies.

I have had the zire since a couple weeks after they came out, but just about 3 weeks ago, due to posts on this board, sent and got the aluminum Proporta hard case. I am really glad I did. No dents, no scratches.

Club members were really impressed when the zire still worked!

Thanks to those that recommended the Proporta Case!!!! I owe you one!

I am so glad for you that it worked OK!

Drops are scary. You can drop a naked Palm a dozen feet onto bare concrete one time and come away with barely a scratch, then drop it a foot in a great case and it will still shatter!

However, the odds are so much better that a good case will help that it is well worth the investment!

The metal back of the zire helps heaps if dropped without a case. the thing i used to worry about is table corners and falls onto sharp objects. I have a proporta hard case and am happy with it

one night, right after i got my m130, i charged it in the lunchroom at school(dumb). i got up and walked across the room to buy a coke, and a freshman decided he could pickup and fool around with my palm. now my school has a problem with theft. i have to make sure to hide any food i leave in my backpack, or it will be stolen within 5 minutes. so when i saw this idiot picking up my palm, i went nuts. before i knew what i was doing, i had ran across the room and body checked him into the wall. problem was, i forgoit he was holding my palm. the m130 went flying across the room atleast 5 feet, landed on the tile floor. ipicked it up fearing the worst, only to find a small crack by the screw. later, i found that it had even fixed the battery problem i was having(the reason i needed to charge in the lunchroom). if theres one thing thats good about these palms, its that thier durable.
At the same time, 3 weeks ago my m130s screen cracked. i pulled it out getting into my car, put it back into my leather case, located on my belt near the hip. i pulled it out after the car ride to find a shattered screen. thank god for extended warranties!

The back of the Zire71 is actually silver colored plastic.

I'm on my third palm, a TE. My first was an m105, my second was an m130. ALL have been through drops, and the first two have taken a few spills from heights over 8 feet. Needless to say, palms are VERY sturdy.

They are durable, to a degree.

If i treated my palm, like my mobile (cellfone to you US folk)
i would have gone thru a tone of palms by now.

Funny, my moblie is worth a couple hundred $ more than my palm,
but i treat my palm like its gold.

When i cracked the screen of my Vx, it was like my world came to an end.

But, if it were not for my misfortune, i would not be a proad owner of a z71.

So, a silver lining to the storm cloud, as they say.
