Thread: Zire 71 FAQ

I've taken the liberty of copying this thread to the FAQ forum (with slight edit of title to conform), since it seems to have matured nicely. If you wish your further thoughts to achieve "e-mortality", remember to post to the FAQ copy as well.

Thanks. Any way we could make it sticky here?
Also, PowerRUN lets you run apps DIRECTLY from the card? Without copying to RAM first?

Done.
No, the file is copied, along with any auxilliary files, but the process is pretty seamless, except for a short delay while the program is loaded. As long as you leave enough room for your largest card-mounted app, it's pretty bulletproof, IMHO.Steven G. Tyler, Esq.

I think this should be updated:
Q: Hot sync has stopped.
A: Try these, in order...
1.Use another USB port, if not then System Properties control panel Device manager tab to delete the USB settings marked "unknown USB", then use Refresh button or restart your computer.
2. Close Hot Sync and then restart it with Hot Sync Manager.
3. Check the conduits and 3rd party apps to make sure they are syncing correctly.
4. Reinstall the Palm Desktop over your old copy, or use the 'Repair' feature to verify the old files.
I get this problem recently because of other USB devices (6in1 reader), so If I just switch to another USB port it works, or sometimes switching back. But I think that mostly fail to hotsync is a USB related problem , not software.

Voil?!
Thanks. For things like that, I have to rely on you. Believe it or not, I've yet to have a single HotSync problem (Except with this blasted Belkin sync cable...)

the hotsync
I have a z71 and i can't proform a hotsync with the cradle. I think that hte cradle is broken because the button doesn't work and other applications work on the same usb port what do i do . do i call teh company to return or get a new one. could it be something else?

First, try the obvious. Wiggle the USB cable where it connects to the computer, and wiggle the Z71 on the cradle to make sure it's seated properly. Try a different USB port - some things work, others don't, in the same port.
Can you hotsync using the hotsync app on the Palm?
Using capital letters to start sentences, and using punctuation in long, run-on sentences, makes your posts easier to read.Regards,

Also, while we may know what "teh" and "hte" are supposed to be, it doesn't mean you should type that way.
Does your Palm beep when you put it in the cradle?

Oh, and yes, all the photos on my site are taken with the Z71's camera.
