AvantGo vs. Plucker
Which one's better? I'm guessing Plucker, especially since most of my AG "channels" are custom anyway.
The thing is, I had never even heard of Plucker before yesterday.

Does Plucker work on Desktop 4.0 on a Mac with a 515?

Re: AvantGo vs. Plucker
If you want to sign up, choose your channels and go, Avantgo is better by a mile. If on the other hand, you are a "power user", don't mind having to do a lot of custom setting tweaking, Plucker may be your best choice. I stopped using Avantgo after they started using advertisements. Note: you cannot at the current time update your plucker content without a PC. Meaning if you were using a cellular modem to update your Avantgo content, you won't have that luxury with Plucker.Originally posted by ignavia

Here is a side by side comparison between the two. Both plucker and avantgo's hires clients are currently both in beta stages (although Plucker seems like the sort of software that stays in beta forever
) Plucker currently has a mac OS X package. Check the dl page for more info.
Overall, for ease of use I give the nod to Avantgo (I've been using it since the Palm IIIx and would still be were it not so ad-encumbered). If you're a GPL fan, and wouldn't mind sacrificing ease of use for a bit more control, Plucker it is.
Choose wisely, young jedi

Yeah, I've been using AvantGo for years, but the ads are definitely pissing me off. I think I'm gonna go with Plucker. I already installed it on my IIIc and I'll install it on my Z71 when it comes in today. Thanks for the info.

I have been using Plucker the last 20 days (since I bought my first Palm) and it's working quite correctly. I use it for static content mainly, that is, download once to the palm, not updating like a true "channel".
The only problem I had with Plucker was the Zire 71 would auto-poweroff when using only the joystick for navigation, and one of the developer corrected it in a couple of days. The version you can download now is corrected.
As of today, I have nothing but praise for Plucker.

And to stir things up, you might check out iSilo. (I prefer its formatting to Plucker's.) iSilo isn't free, but it formats Web pages on a Palm quite well, IMO. Complexity-wise, it falls between AvantGo and Plucker.

I use both Plucker and iSilo. Plucker has the advantage that it is open-source and if you know some programming, you can add your own functionality to it. iSilo seems more "stable". Turcic.com made a comparison of the two. You can find it here.
