Palm Zire 31 charger
Hello
I don`t have the Palm adapter. I would like to try to use one of the many adapters that I`ve accumulated. Can anyone tell me the power needs of the Zire 31? I`m asking for the voltage, ampage and polarity, please

Welcome to Brighthand
5volts, 1amp, positive center verified on my 31
Edit: although (IME) slower, you can also charge via the mini-USB port using a suitable AC adapterLast edited by RickAgresta; 11-24-2011 at 08:44 AM.

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
You're welcome. The '31 is a great little device, IMO. Very pocketable, and with both the earphone jack & taking up to a1Gb SD (*not* SDHC) card, it makes for a nice mp3 player, in addition to the PIM functions. But since it's not of the modern generation of memory, if the battery is fully drained, all added data is lost (anything you entered, or new applications you added).

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
I can charge my Zire31 via USB, but with a special cable with split connector at the handheld side.
I did not think straight USB to mini connects works on the Zire31 for charging.Welcome to Brighthand

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
It does; I've done that with both an AC adapter, and with a homemade portable charger.

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
My Zire 31 does the "charging beep" when I connect it to a USB port, but the battery charge indicator doesn't pop up. I wonder whether it's charging or not.
---
EDIT: well, it's charging, even without the charge indicator that usually overposes the battery icon in the screen. Must be due to the "trickle charge" condition.

cestrian, welcome to Brighthand!
FWIW, most if not all the Palm models of the same era than the Zire 31, share chargers. IME, the charger bundled with a Palm Tungsten E, is exactly the same. Keep in mind that (again) most if not all the Zire 31 devices belong to the "PalmOne" era. So, you can verify the power output of a given Palm charger that meets the size of the end connector, and perhaps you can find more than one of these chargers, originally not belonging to a Zire 31, yet being compliant with it."Do or do not. Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
Via USB connection, the charge indicator will only be presented if the device is usb 1.2 compatible. That will provide the 5 VDC required to flip the indicator on.
When I received my Zire 31 (used), I tried trickle charging via a USB mini connector and it did not not, I located a Zire31/TE usb charging cable with the two connectors for the function to complete, I will have to reviist this again and check the results.Welcome to Brighthand

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
That makes a lot of sense, there's a part of this assembly that depends on the USB version. Cause if the power supplied by the USB port is too low, either it won't charge, or it will trickle charge, YMMV. I saw that my Zire 31 charged cause even though the charging icon was missing, the battery level indicator changed within a handful of minutes. I reckon that all this can rely on variations of voltage or amperage.

Re: Palm Zire 31 charger
Usually I'll charge my Z31 via the wall wart. If I've done a backup/sync to my laptop, I'll just leave it attached via the USB link and within a few hours it'll be topped up.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.
