    Default WebOS goes Open Source

This story is starting to show up.

HP: WebOS Is Now an Open Source Project

Apparently HP is letting WebOS go open source. What say you?

That's good news. Good news indeed. Now if HP (or anybody else) uses webOS on a future hardware platform, things could turn out very well indeed for the webOS user community. A lot depends on how HP licenses the OS. If it's GPL or GLPL it might slow adoption the same way these licenses slowed initial adoption of Linux but if it's more like creative commons, things in the webOS world could heat up fast.

Absolutely crazy that it took this long to come to this decision. But it has a chance to be absolutely incredible news.

    As an update:

HP: webOS Will Be Fully Open-Sourced By September

I would have thought that the Linux kernel would already be public under the terms of GPL, but anyway ....

    It's good.
