I could be wrong, but I think Hook meant when you're used to Palm PIMS, if you deal with any non-Palm smartphone PIMs, you'll be disappointed. At least that's what I took his statement to mean. And in my very limited experience, I'd have to agree. I'm adapting to the iPhone & the various websites I'm using to have some minimal PIM functions on the iPhone. But I've also found if I'm looking something up, I still tend to use the Agendus desktop, if I'm at my PC.

    EDIT: sniped by Hook.

That's ok. I obviously needed all the help I could get. It's been one of those days.

    Thank you for stepping in.

Ok, lets talk UI. I'm guessing the LG enV2 keyboard is better than the Motorola Rival's.

I think I would also prefer the LG's actual phone keypad to the Motorola's virtual one.

I'm guessing there are "Notes" on both, but "Tasks" on neither.

The LG Touch has something they call Document Viewer, which Verizon says allows you to view Word and Excel files. Anybody know if that works well?

Motorola UI is the worst. Absolutely frustrating. More clicks or keystrokes to accomplish any task. But perhaps you might already be used to it if you ever had a mot featurephone. Otherwise, I would say avoid Mot phones if you care at all about User Interface.

I'm guessing at Android and WebOS, but I'm betting I'm right. I suspect WinMo with third party apps is the best alternative if you are just looking at PIMS.

    Clearer now.
AAAHHHH, totally clear!!! I had understood exactly the opposite. ThankyouverymuchPirate, I did get confused this time ...

Cause if I review the original post, "Coming from Palm", uh, here is where I got lost.

Inner Prop, if your scope is keep yourself unconverged, I shall suggest you keep yourself with the biggest side of your mobile system, this is your Palm TX, for the most tasks involving a Mobile Office trend. So I assert your PIM apps and Office documents handling could be better restricted to it. And, in turn, you should get yourself a featurephone that gives you what a dumbphone can't give you, yet not trying to reach what the TX gives you. Anyway, just a thought.

The LG enV(2), still being a featurephone, is dubbed by CNET as a messagephone (curious dub that may deserve some discussion in another thread, due to the fact that it is used for something that's not a smartphone). There's another review here. It looks fine but it's up to you to decide over the specs.

Something similar to a Notes app has arrived to many featurephones. AFAIK, nothing similar to a Tasks app has EVER reached any featurephone.

I agree with r0k in that the Motorola UI is not the best, but I have managed to get along with it. Regarding dumbphones and featurephones, Nokia and Motorola offer one significant advantage over many other brands: throughout the years, their OSs has been the same yet with improvements, and the resulting UIs are pretty much the same. That's a good reason why some people keep themselves Nokians and others Motorolese (or something ), cause the next phone at upgrade spells minimal learning curve.

QFF has an LG Voyager (or V'Ger as I like to call it) and she uses it like a smartphone...she finds it to be more stylish. If you aren't looking for much, the LG line can outshine a lot of other feature phones.

Ok, so I went into Verizon thinking enV3 or Dare. I told the man I didn't want web or text, I did want PIM, docs, music and pics in that order. I asked if there were any hidden back doors, but he said no...

    UNTIL

I pulled out my TX to reference my set of questions. I mentioned how Palm had left me out in the cold. He nodded knowingly and then he did the sneaky looking around and leaning forward to whisper, "There is sort of a back door. If they still have them in stock on-line you MIGHT be able to get a 5800 with OUT the data plan."

I said, "The SMT5800?" he said yes.

In fact, you can select 0 for the KBs and get the SMT5800 from Verizon without the data plan on-line and that's what I just did.

Thank you all VERY much for the help. I could not have made an [so]intelligent[/so] informed decision about this (and I hope my decision was intelligent) without this discussion.

I'm sure we will be having many conversations about how to get this new thing to work (first off will be how to get it to do Wi/Fi) in the future.
