What should I replace my Vx with?
I have had a Vx for a few months now and really like it. Its only drawback is that I fhat I find the display hard to read because of my diminishing eyesight. So my question is which models have a brighter and clearer display? Dont really need any more bells and whistles (tho I wouldn't mind!)

Have a look at Palm's Tungsten E: no bells and whistles but a color screen with very good resolution.

Thank - yes that might be the one. Cheapskate that I am I was just looking at some m515s on eBay. How do they stack up compared to the Vx and Tungsten? And is it a Very Bad Plan to buy a used one?

Tungsten E looks like a really nice choice, and I would reccomend that, since the Palm m515 is going on ebay for only a few bucks less than a new Tungsten E. If you don't have much money to spare, but still want a color PDA, I'd reccomend a used Palm IIIc because the m515's go for almost as much as a Tungsten E and the m505 is notorious for a hard to read display. If you do have money to spare though, Tungsten E would be my roccomendation.

I recommended the Tungsten E especially because you mentioned difficulties with eyesight. I chose it for precisely this reason; it's resolution is leagues above the 515.

The thing is, even if the device is in perfect condition, this model is old enough that its battery wont likely hold a charge as well anymore. I know mine doesn't and I haven't used it extensively. Its just 2 years+ old now.Originally posted by ixnay

Okay - now I'm convinced I want one and am going to have stump up some cash. Just did a search on Amazon and found some very conflicting reports. Most people reckoned it is the best little gizom in the world, and a couple said that it was as solid and even better built than the Vx, which is what I wanted to hear. Others said that it was unreliable and had serious battey life problems. Weird. Was there a bad batch that was around at one time?

The battery life is shorter than the Vx's - about 4 hours, at best - and that's because of the color screen. It's a trade-off between time and visibility. If you're a heavy user. however, you can buy a battery extender from e-Bay that should yield two complete recharges "on the go." Otherwise, it should be sufficient to recharge it at the end of the day (unless you use it for games, which drains the battery more quickly).

If you're referring to the Palm Power-To-Go sled, that only works on models with a Universal Connector, which the T|E is not.Originally posted by corina

However, there are other power solutions around. Doing a little hunting / searching through these boards should turn up something.Never confuse a successful strategy with a smart one.

No, I am referring to a simpler battery extender that can be found on e-Bay by doing a search for Tungsten E battery extender. It costs about $7, uses 4 AA batteries (including rechargeables), and has a plug that fits into the Tungsten E charger port.
