Default Questions from new Palm V user

I've been struggling to get the Palm V up and running after sitting in my husband's desk for years. (he gave up on it and I'm determined to "go paperless").

Digifix runs everytime I power up, because the calibration needs to be reset that often. Not good. I often have to turn the unit off and on to re-run digifix, since I can't even get back to "home" to launch it from the main screen. Anything else I should be doing to get around this problem?

My OS is V 3.1.1 and I'd love to be able to upgrade to the latest OS with the latest features. First - is there an OS upgrade that successfully can be installed? I have another computer I can launch the download from, since I read that updating to OS V3.3 seems to be successful when run from a different computer. Please walk me through this, or advise me what to do with the OS?

I'm successfully using MS Outlook calender and contacts, but only because it loads them onto the Palm V. Chapura software works great!

I tried to load V 3.5.3 and have it on my Palm V - can't seem to be able to get it off. Please advise how to remove it from the Palm - I know how to remove it from the subdirectory on my PC.

Thanks for all of the info I've already gained from this site and for your help.

All digitizers degrade with age, but the Palm V seems to be especially susceptible to this problem. There's nothing you can do about it besides replacing the digitizer.

You can find the OS 3.3 upgrade here. You would only need to run it on a different PC if you had problems on your current PC. However, it loads an older version of Palm Desktop (depending on which version you are currently running - if you're still running the version that came with your Palm V, it would actually be an upgrade), which can potentially corrupt the Palm Desktop registry entries, meaning you would need to completely uninstall Palm Desktop. So you may want to go ahead and uninstall Palm Desktop as described here before running the upgrade, or you may want to use a different PC that does not already have a recent version of Palm Desktop loaded.

You can also purchase the OS 4.1 upgrade at the Palm Store. The OS 3.5 upgrade is no longer available. To remove the 3.5.3 patch, do a warm reset (hold the up scroll button while doing a pin reset on the back), delete the patch, then do a soft reset. If that doesn't work, you would have to remove the file from your Backup directory, hard reset, and HotSync.
