Default HotSync Issue : Palm V (XP OS)

    Dear Forum Members:

I am trying to restore apps and a data backup to a trusty old Palm V.
(Via Serial cable to USB Port). I get the following error on my XP OS when pressing Sync on Cradle.

The Selected Port, COM1, is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes avail.

Can anybody shed any light on this problem?

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Casey

Open Hotsync Manager and make sure Local USB (not Local) is checked.

Your described resolution did not solve my issue.

I am wondering about what Driver I should install or re-install / troubleshoot my existing driver (i.e., f5u109_xp).

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Thanks!

After the HotSync button is pressed, here is the message on my Handheld (on cradle):

The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.

    Still no success!

    Please help!

Sorry, I don't know. I haven't used Palm OS in a long time.

something that has helped in the past is to try a different USB port, so give that a try.

also, iirc, the Palm Desktop sw really needs to be installed by a user with admin rights, so that's another thing to think about. not to mention, is the Palm Desktop sw compatible with the V (i.e., what version Palm Desktop is installed)?

if none of the above helps, let us know and we can put our collective heads together and see what we can come up with.

    Good news.

I successfully installed the Belkin Hardware component through Control Panel.
This step opened COM3 Port in HotSync setup, so now I believe I almost have sync issue solved.

Still getting the 'check the Setup' error on Handheld in Cradle (mentioned in my previous post).

I think I have something checked wrong in setup, like Local Serial. I am trying all the the different USB ports on computer too.

    What is wrong? Please help!

What version Palm Desktop are you using/are you sure it's compatible with the V?

Has hotsync worked on this PC before?

When you click on the HotSync icon in the system tray, does Local USB have a checkmark next to it?
