Palm VX/Palm Portable Keyboard problem
Good afternoon, all. This is my first posting, made after scouring the forum for answers to little avail, so I'm hoping you experts can help me.
Right, technical bit first; I have a 3 Palm VXs (2 for me, 1 for my wife) running PalmOS v3.1.0.0 (my PC is running Windows XP, if that's important), also running DataViz Documents to Go v.4.001 (283). I've had the VX for years, now, with little or no problem, and thanks to DocstoGo use it mostly as a portable library. I bought a Palm Portable Keyboard, second hand, from Amazon - it came boxed, with protective case and instruction booklet, but no CD-Rom - but the seller warned me of this, and sent me to the suitable website (http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/.../49252_en.html) to download the driver.
I plugged the Palm into the keyboard, enabled the keyboard via the program, but am unable to type anything into the Palm via the keyboard. Examining this and other fora, I surmised that the OS needed updating, so I downloaded & installed Palm Desktop v. 4.2.1 Rev A from the Palm Support website. Unfortunately, this caused my hotsync cradle to refuse to hotsync, stating that the port was in use, and even rolling back my computer didn't repair that - the old Palm Desktop refuses to open, and as I type this now appears to have forgotten all 3 of my profiles.
I'm getting very frustrated, folks; I hope you can help me out with this.
Regards,
Carl.

Re: Palm VX/Palm Portable Keyboard problem
Think about it, the desktop has nothing to do with the Keyboard-PDA connection.
The Desktop does not update the PDA OS, they are seperate/not the same.
Palm Desktop v. 4.2.1 Rev A is for MacIntosh. You need Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for Windows.
Doing a soft reset should sort out the PDA-Keyboard problem. The desktop is a whole other kettle of fish.

Re: Palm VX/Palm Portable Keyboard problem
I have EXACTLY the same problem!!!
I've installed the driver but when I plug the palm into the keyboard, it shows the Hotsync screen which would eventually show a problem with hotsync error.
IS there some setting in hotsync I neet to change?
thanks

Re: Palm VX/Palm Portable Keyboard problem
Thinking back MANY years, I seem to remember that there WAS a keyboard driver issue. I think there were 2 keyboard drivers floating around and you need to have the right one. I think it had something to do with a keyboard driver showing up on the Vx with the OS upgrade for the Vx itself (I forget the version number) and a newer, separate keyboard driver. Also, you may need the OS upgrade for your Vx (not the desktop upgrade) to use the keyboard.

Re: Palm VX/Palm Portable Keyboard problem
I will look into this (since you disappeared, I didn't bother). I seem to remember upgrading to the HANDHELD (not desktop) 4.x on my Vx (which you should do if you can) and then installing the keyboard driver and I do remember initially having an issue.
I recently resurrected my Vx (I'd let it run down) and will check the version numbers of my OS and my keyboard driver.

did your palm Vx come with 4.0? if not where did you get the update?
