Data lost after hotsynch my Palm Vx
First of all thank you very much for spending your time with my problem.
I had a crash on my HDD with XP and so I wanted to make a backup of my old but still very useful Vx using the laptop of my wife (Vista).
I installed palm software and performed two hotsynch. Apparently everything OK, even looking at the log file but I was not able to see the backup on the HDD. My old data were still on the palm.
I run the palm desktop programm and tried another synch. At this time it took a much longer time and when it finished... all my data on the palm were gone, except for the files of a third party commercial software that are the only one survived!!!
By carefully checking the HDD I was able only to find a backup directory but still no phone and memos records.
Can anyone out there help me, please!
Thank you very much again for your time.

Re: Data lost after hotsynch my Palm Vx
Older Palms are not compatible with Vista. Not even the Access Desktop for Vista will Hotsync the older Palms.
The Backup folder only has 3rd party apps and data. You should look for the Address, Datebook, Memopad and ToDo folders, they contain your PIM data and are in the same parent directory that looks like your UsreName. But the backup of these is overwriten at the end on the Hotsync so that they reflect what was Hotsynced.
Your data is gone unless you have another copy of your Username directory.
All of your data (as of your last synchronization) is contained in a folder on your desktop computer named after the User Name you assigned to your handheld device. On a Windows computer you can usually find the folder at C:\Program Files\Palm\ .

Re: Data lost after hotsynch my Palm Vx
Dear Josser,
first of all thank you very much for your time.
Unfortunately, if I had understand it well from you, the fxxxx program did not made any copy of my data before erasing it. Am I right? If so this is really unbelievable!!! There should be a warning!
I do have a very old backup but almost two years are gone...
Anyhow, thank you again very much for your help.
Regards,
Michele

Re: Data lost after hotsynch my Palm Vx
One more question: since I did not write anything on the palm is there any possibility to get back the data as in fat HDD where the file is not really deleted by it has been changed only a flag?
This is my last hope...

Re: Data lost after hotsynch my Palm Vx
That Palm only has DRAM for storage, and not much of it. There is no utility to recover deleted RAM files for Palm. I think your data is gone.
