    Default TW Cradle--Too Loose!!!!

    Here's a good one...

After finally getting the TW via UPS today, setting the whole thing up and testing it, I tried to put it in the cradle. It seemed quite loose, but it seemed to rest in there OK.

    Then I added the "cover".

Putting on the cover causes the Palm to tip to the left side-- just enough to disconnect it from the contacts on the cradle.

This is very poorly designed. Palm knew there was an issue with this (hence the warning that gaps at the bottom when the device is in the cradle are normal), so the decision to allow the problem to exist is a big mistake.

Anyone have a solution (aside from removing the cover every time you want to charge/sync)?

    Thanks a bunch!!!

I'm actually using my old m505 cradle most of the time. I haven't had any problems with it staying in the cradle with the cover on. The cradle it came with works fine, too.

My gripe with the cover, though, is that it won't fit in the Tungsten W beltclip case with the cover on it. The cover won't ever seem to stay closed, either, so I may just remove it and use the beltclip case all the time instead. The T|W cover is the worst of any Palm PDA I've seen. I'm hoping for a third party cover that is better soon.

None of the Palm Case solutions are any good. The flip case, which is actually the flip case for the i705, seems to fit, but is a bit too tight causing the device to turn on.

The belt clip is, well, a belt clip. If you like the Blackberry style of device toting, then this one is for you. Personally, I need a case that will protect the device while I am using it.

I have no idea what the Palm designer was smoking when he/she came up with the flip cover design. It is useless, does not stay close, does not protect the device if dropped.

Krusell, the Scandinavian case company, is about to release a custom version for the Tungsten W. Covertec is also planning to come out with one.

But the cradle issue still remains. We need a better solution for that one...

I've been using a Ripoffs Model CO-52 pda holster for my i705 for a few months now. This is the best PDA holster I've used, and I've tried 'em all (from Palm OEM stuff to other aftermarket holsters).

It's padded, has a very secure belt clip, and very protective. Should protect my Tungsten W well too!

    I highly recommend it.

I like the E&B Slipper cases, except that they redesigned the swivelling belt clip so that it is much harder to use than the old style and jams easily. I managed to get them to send me an old-style clip for my i705 case when the one that came with the case jammed, but I think that was about the last one they had.

The old style was all plastic and you would just slide the metal button on the back of the case down into the Y-groove and it would click closed. To release, push on the release button and slide the case up - you could do it one-handed.

The new design uses a keyhole slot that is hard to find without looking, and the motion is in-then-down for attachment, and up-then-out (and you had better get it right) for release.

    Ah, progress...

Check your cradle. I've had similar problems with my i705. Occasionally, the silver metal tabs on either side of the electrical contacts will get tweeked. Check these tabs and make sure they are OK and aligned with the cradle's surface. I can usually correct the problem using a small screwdriver. Be careful though, the tabs will break off. I'm speaking from experience
