Default Average life expectancy of a T3?

I have been looking at the TX and it seems like quite a good machine. However losing voice recorder, vibrating alarms and speed, means I can't say I am tempted to 'upgrade'. If my T3 died, I'd probably, slightly reluctantly, get one. WiFi is nice, but here in the UK, there are not many free WiFi locations, and I probably wouldn't use it much.

I have had my T3 less than a year and want to keep it as long as possible, in the hope that a real upgrade might eventually be released.

So my question: what is the average life expectancy of a T3? Does anyone know? Anyone got one which is still going after 2 years? 3 years? More? Just interested

I got mine a few weeks after they came out -- I *think* that was roughly two years ago, but I'm not sure. It's still going strong.

I have had my T3 for two years. They first came out in october of 2003.

Mine is going strong. No problems. I love it.

I do wish it had built in WiFi. The extra memory of the T/X is tempting also, although with a 1 GB sd card in my T3, I do fine.

I may buy a T/X if I can get a good deal...not sure. What do those of you that took the leap think so far? Any former T3 users switch yet?

I believe this December will be 3 years for my T3 (??). Sure seems longer than 2 years, anyway. Still going strong, although I think I've used the slider maybe 5-6 times. Normally closed.

However the T3 seems very reliable to me and should I decide against the TX I'm hoping it lasts a little longer! I had a big "add-on" here regarding the TX, but decided most of it was off topic. Your T3 should last you a while if kept in a case, not dropped and not overcharged.

I was planning on "forcing" mine to last until it DID break; the TX is the 1st unit I've seen that would "replace it" if necessary.

Happily remaining in the T3 Dark Ages . . . although that TX looks pretty darn good!

    Thanks guys
Looks like I should have at least another year before I have to upgrade. Anything could happen in that time

I don't see a reason why T3 should fail some time soon. Mine works excellent, destpite dozen of mods (it is filled with holes, cuts, etc...) Excellent motherboard built quality (by Asus) and metal casing sure help.
For instance, I still have original PalmPro 1mb from 1996 I think. I got it in 2000 from 3rd hand and if I pop in fresh AAA's - it still works like almost 10 years before.

TX looks like very nice device. I have wifi at home so i would use it often. The 2 deal breakers for me is:
    1) absence of recorder. I record lectures.
    2) 3 times less dynamic memory. I wuold have to say good bye to all my sega/snes games.
Other than that it seems pretty stable

I've had my T3 for nearly 2 years (got in Nov 03).

Everything okay except that horrible digitizer. It drifts badly and lately I can't even recalibrate it any more. Plus there is a dead spot in the north west side of the screen.

I am going to miss the compact form factor of the T3 but I do not have a choice but to migrate over to the TX.

To my surprise - i discovered that digitizer drift is (or at least can be) - totally software related.
I have never reinstalled everythig from the beginning since i had Zire71. So all my settings (saved, unsaved prefs) were never reinstalled.

Currently my digitizer works really fine (to my surprise- since i see many people complaining.)

    -=BUT=-

If I do Hard Reset (i ckecked it multiple times) - i experience HUGE digitizer drift, especially at the bottom part. No matter how precise I try to perform ditigizer taps. I even went further, and tried many digi-fix apps (digiE, others i don't remember now) and NOTHEING helped.

I know this soulds strange, but it's true.

The reason i did all this - is that I decided to clean up my T3 - It has tons of parts of installed programs ages ago.
So I decided, i just would reinstall from clean device - but than I discovered what I wrote above. So i had to continue (loading from card backup again )

explorer - if this issue interest you (It does interest me anyway) - i can do a little experiment with other T3 user w/ bad digitizer to see if this can be solved .
