    Default Wi-fi hotsync

For some reason I cant hotsync over the wi-fi. In fact, in the hotsync menu, wi-fi is not even listed as an option, just cradle/cable and a a long list of modems.

    Please help!

    Thanks

Try NetSync, this should do the job.

Ok, on the desktop click on the HotSync icon in the desktop icon tray, select Setup, click on the 'Network' tab, and make sure your User ID is checked.

Click on TCP/IP settings and select the primary IP address to be your home network IP address.

Click on 'OK' to save the windows. Then click on the HotSync icon again, and make sure the 'Network' entry has a checkmark beside it (click it if it doesn't).

    Do a normal (cradle) HotSync.

Ok, use the Wi Fi setup to establish a working connection with your home network.

On the HotSync application on the Palm, select Menu > Modem Sync Preferences and set it to Network.

On the HotSync application on the Palm, select Menu > LANSync Preferences ans set it to LANSync.

On the HotSync application on the Palm, select Menu > Primary PC Setup. On those values (which were filled in by the last HotSync) verify the Primary PC Address is right. You can change the Primary PC Name to "!!" but without the quotes. This will prevent the Primary PC name from being filled in every time -- it can interfere with locating your PC remotely.

UseMenu > Conduit Setup (if you want) to restrict what conduits will be used during the WiFi HotSync.

On the main Palm screen for HotSync, select the 'Modem' option instead of the 'Local' option --- underneath the large Modem HotSync icon you can select different network services. Choose 'Wi-Fi'.

Tap on the large Modem HotSync icon to start your Wi-Fi HotSync.

    Cheers

Steve - thanks so much as those were the instructions I needed. All is setup as described, my wifi is connected, but during the attempted hotsync it gives an error after 30 or so seconds saying the connection cannopt be established - not sure what I am missing?

The only odd thing I see is that under menu/connection setup there is no wifi option; however, wifi appears as the selection under the large Hotsync icon...

That's right... there's no Wi-Fi 'connection' entry, but there is a Wi-Fi 'network' entry.

It's the Network entry you use, by selecting the Wi-Fi network below the big HotSync button.

If you're getting 'Connection cannot be established' it could be either the Wi-Fi connection isn't being made, or the HotSync Manager on the desktop isn't expecting Network connections.

I'd suggest first you try 'Ping'ing the desktop. Make a note of the desktop IP address (the one you saw when, on the Palm, you did Menu > Primary PC setup).

Download and install the freeware 'Mergic Ping' which you'll find at www.mergic.com/vpnDownloads.php and run it on the Palm while you're Wi-Fi connected. You should see a response from the desktop.

If you don't, then you have the IP address incorrect, or you have a firewall issue, or the Wi-Fi isn't correctly configured.

If you do, then the problem is in HotSync configuration. Again, make sure that when you click on the HotSync Manager on the desktop that the 'Network' option has a checkmark, and that when you select Setup > Network on the desktop HotSync Manager, that your User ID has got a checkmark.

Let me know how it turns out. If it's not working, send me the details of exactly what you have configured both on the Palm's HotSync menus and on the desktop HotSync.

    Cheers

I forgot to ask... the 'Connection cannot be established' message -- is that on the desktop or on the handheld?

    Hey,
I had the same problem, here is how to fix it:
in the Menu of HotSync press on the Primary PC Setup and delete the name of the PC and try to sync

I know it worked for me for the first time but then my router crashed (dont know why) and havent tried it since
    Good luck,
    Kolyan

Yep, this works, but you'll find the name of the Primary PC keeps returning after every HotSync.

That's the advantage of NetSync as suggested by DeanDC10.

Another tip is (as I suggested in my first post) to replace the Primary PC name with "!!" (without the quotes). This ignores the PC Name and doesn't keep putting it back.

    Cheers
