Unhappy Tungsten T3 - Motorola V3 SMS Receive fix ?

    Hi,

I tried using the latest Standard GSM phonelink update from Palm (Nov 03) but still unable to receive sms messages to the T3 (send sms messages only).

I have all the other features working such as dialing, GPRS, web browsing etc but not SMS receive function.

Anyone found a solution for recieving SMS from the Motorola V3 to Tungsten T3 ?

    Appreciate your help.

    Cheers
    Andrew

This ones gotta be a fast fix. The "incorrect response received from phone" happens to the SMS system whenever a new Motorola phone comes along. It can only mean that somehow the phone's model number is being included in the SMS repsonse string. I can't believe that each Moto phone has a different SMS handshake technique. I would bet that if one could find a few minutes to id the SMS code in phonelink, one could simply patch in the correct model identifier, thus fixing the SMS issue for all Moto phones....

hmmm... sounds like a Monday morning project....

    Is Motorola V3 a smartphone?

I know that many smartphones store SMS's differently than ordinary phones thus making them inaccessible via standard AT modem commands, which Palm is using.

I have the same problem with my Nokia 7650... no incoming SMS's... til finaly after hours of digging, reading Nokia's developers docs, googling around, reading Palm SDK... finaly i got the answer that it's the Smartphone problem...

    Klw,

I get the following response code on the palm from using the test connection button with the phone settings set to "standard GSM" : +CGMI:"Motorola CE, Copyright 2004" +CGMM

    fyi
If you can't fix the project for all motolrola users by Monday morning....Tuesday will be fine :>)

My Motorola E398 also gets a similar failure response:

    +CGMI:"Motorola CE, Copyright 2000"
    +CGMM:"GSM900",
..... (hidden from the view due to limited dialog space...)

I was able to receive SMS messages from my V3 for a week, but now I get a message that says "Action Cancelled due to unknow phone services error" !!

I'm still trying to figure out what happened.

I am using the UPDD driver.

I can send messages as long as they go one at a time. If I out a bunch in the outbox and then try to send, I get an error.

Finally if I use the Standard GSM driver, I can send, but when I try to receive I am just told "No new messages", no error.

I know the answer to the "unknown phone services error": you have messages in your outbox which are marked as sent. Moto phones don't have a seperate sent items folder, but simply mark outbox items as sent instead. The SMS app can't handle this fails if there are any messages in there. Try cleaning up your outbox then it'll be viola! back in business!

I found that I could Send SMS to the V3 if I change the Phone settings to "Standard GSM" and then change to the "UPDD" phone connection driver to receive.

Any one found a way to compose a custom string to make this work without switching?

    Standard GSM String : E0V1+CMEE=1;+CSCS="GSM";+CMGF=0
    UPDD String : &FV1E0X1
