USB will not recognize T3 Unless I plug in in the middle of a sync
Hello everyone. When I plug in my T3 to the cable or cradle a message pops up that windows (xp) does not recognize the device or it has malfuntioned. If I hit the hot sync button and let the T3 try and connect then plug in the cable it works fine. Any ideas as to why windows cannot recognize the T3. Thank you in advance!!

Windows shouldn't even know the Palm was plugged in until you initiate the hotsync. That's the way it's designed. If the PC knows the Palm was put into the cradle, something is wrong - a short circuit perhaps, or something.

Stan thank you for the reply. What is actually happening is I plyg the T3 in to my cable and small window pops up saying that windows cannot recognize the device or that the divice has malfunctioned. Then if I try to hot sync nothing happens on the desktop. The T3 is trying to connect. If I do nothing then the T3 tells me there is a problem connecting. If I unplug my cable while the T3 is trying to sync and then plug it back in it immediately recognizes the T3 and starts the sync. This is the second T3 I have used on this desktop. The other one did not have this problem.
I have been thruough all the palm help website and nothing helped.

Were you ever able to sync successfully before to this machine? Have you made any changes, specifically Windows SP2?

Known issue with Palm T3's USB hotsyncing to the Dell D Dock. What hardware are you using?
You'll have to look at the cached google to see all the messages. It appears Dell removed the original thread from their forum:

I had a previous T3 that would hot sync fine. It was damaged by water so I replaced it with a new T3. The new one will hot sync if I start the hot sync then plug in my cable. Which is fine however it seems that I cannot use Audible. I cant get the computer to comminicate with my T3 because when I plug in the cable the little yellow window pops up out of the sys. tray and says that it is unable to recognize the device and that the device has malfuntioned. If I push the hot sync button on the cradle or tap it on the screen then plug in my cable it recognizes the palm says that it was installed sucessfully and will sync. As soon as it is done if I hit the hot sync button again the palm tells me there is a communication problem and to check my settings. I have a Sony computer so I dont know if the Dell problem is Dell specific but I will read up on it???
