Yes, you are correct.
It also renders decent quality with a file size small enough to fit a full length movie in less than 256KB.

I would just reiterate that it is possible to transcode a 2 hour movie in less that 150Mb of space using free software available for PC (as junglemike has shown in fantastic detail) and, indeed, for mac (as I would do if requested). Think carefully before you invest your $35 or so.....

Can you check if it works and how.
<there are a bunch of ready movies for download and other cool stuff. The archieve will get bigger.>
You can upload and download any files.
(Xm, it would be nice if you upload smth when downloading movies)
I have total maximum upload 12k, so consider this.

>>Go to Video->Compression-> Xvid -> Configure, and set encoding
Thank you very much for this great guide.
Is normal that I can't see 48Hz 48Kbt/sec mono in the audio opitons?
Can you say me why?
Thank you
Andrea

DVD rip - OSeX- straightforward to use
-------------------------------------------------
transcoding - ffmpegx
settings (for 16:9 aspect ratio)
first, crop the black bars (if there are any) using filters:autocrop. Choose a segment where the borders are clear (ie no dark scenes etc. ) check this out using the preview function
------------------------------------------------
video
size - 320x176 (16:9)
150kps
framerate 12.5 (PAL is 25fps, divide by 2)
codec - MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder)
----------------------------------------------
audio
codec - MP3
audio bitrate - 16kps
Sampling - 11025Hz (this is v. important for T and it wont play anything else (except 22050Hz which is overkill)
Channels - stereo
Mode - CBR
I usually pump up the vol with audio gain of +3 or +4
Note: a/v sync is fine using 16 or 32kps but is a bit off with 24kps...dont ask me why, its just true in my hands..
---------------------------------------------
Options
check the followin..
High Quality
Use B-frames
4 motion vectors
Two-pass encoding
select bilinear as the scaling method and SSE as the ME method
----------------------------------------------
hit encode and wait 2-3 hours for a 90 min movie on a 667MHz G4 PB (i really need a new machine)
When finished, you can chop off the credits at the end using the 'split' option in Filters and putting the time (minutes/seconds) that the credits begin in the appropriate places. Its easiset to get the preciose timing for this in quicktime.
For me this gives perfect a/v sync and pretty smooth, near TV quality.
On a T|T, soft reset before starting MMplayer which will defrag the heap and enable faster decoding. If you dont, more B-frames will be skipped and it will be a bit jumpy, but still not too bad.
This is for a 16:9 movie as I said.
4:3 is more taxing for thge poor T|T since a higher bit rate is advised. However, even a bit rate of 190kps will still play but I always get a/v sync off and more fra,mes skipped. In this case, maybe make the size 240x176 and blow it up on the palm but it will be more grainy..just play with a few settings and see what you can get away with..
A 90 min movie will be ~110Mb with these settings.
have fun
