Default Using your Palm for checking email and browsing the web

I have a survey going on at the Palmaddict site at the moment which has been looking at:

"How many of you use your Palm to retrieve and send email and to surf the web?"

Over 70% of those that emailed back said that they do use their Palmto surf the web and browse the internet.

The rest were either considering the option or simply use their PDA as an organizer. You can respond to the survey or read what other Palm users are saying in relation to the subject at Palmaddict:

I personally use my Tungsten T to connect to the internet and use it for email. I use it to update my site, check on the news and read other Palm websites when I am on the move. I use Blazer as my principle web browser because I feel that it is much quicker than web pro browser. I use Versamail for all my emails and this is great because it allows me to delete my email of the server. It allows me to view a quick summary of what each mail message.

I must be one of the few idiots who cannot figure out how to get my AOL mail during syncing (cradle). I even bought the AOL software thru handango and still can't figure it out. Tried Versamail with my new T2 ...and I think I just don't understand what I am being asked to do/locate to set it up. I would greatly appreciate a step by step for the "e-mail disabled". I do sync my T2 with 2 computers and was once told that would be a problem in terms of e-mail. ( probably by someone with as limited knowledge as I). Any help?

I think AOL Mail still requires a modem connection - in other words, it won't download your e-mail during HotSync.

Since your T2 has Bluetooth, you could connect it to a Bluetooth phone or get a Bluetooth dongle for your PC, or you could use Softick PPP to share the PC's Internet connection through the cradle.

    Jennifer,
Thanks a TON for the assistance with that program! I had no idea that you could do this...and I think it is great. I'm actually online with my palm now. I'm getting a bluetooth dongle this week, but this at least allows me to try this out ahead of time so that I can get used to using my palm before I get it! Thanks again!

As you are on this topic, could anyone please point me to the list of Palm-compliant Web sites?

I've only recently started getting online with my palm and have found a site; http://pdaportal.us that has links to other portals and pda compatible sites.

Default Survey results to who use their Palm as a wireless device, not just a PDA

Regarding the survey that I posted on Palmaddict:

    http://palmaddicts.blogspot.com/

in connection to the following question:

"How many of you use your Palm to retrieve and send email and to surf the web?"

I have received 397 answers within 36 hours or so and the results are as follows:

84% of you use your Palm to surf the web and send email.

    14% of you simply don't.

2% have not gone for the decision and are thinking about it

Thank you to all those that emailed in with their answers. More details on the survey can be found at the Palmaddict site.

Is there something other than SoftstickPPP that I can use to connect my T|T to the internet through my serial cradle? They Softstick website says that you need a USB connection.

Here is the dilemma I'm trying to solve.

    1) I want to use my T|T to check my personal email from work.

    2) I have internet access on my work PC, but webmail sites are blocked by corporate security.

    3) I would like to establish the internet connection using my cradle so I can use VersaMail to check my personal email.

    4) I have a serial cradle at work, because (believe it or not) we are still running Win95 (expecting to move to XP next year).

    Thanks,
    Scott

I was able to establish a cradle/internet connection using Mocha PPP. I could sync to Avantgo and also browse the web. However, I couldn't establish a connection to the Comcast mail server (mail.comcast.net/smtp.comcast.net)...leading me to believe that my company's firewall may be preventing this from happening.
