Default Reasons NOT to BUY a Tungsten C

    - headphone jack is MONO! Forget about listening to MP3 music
    - does not have Bluetooth - who care about wifi when no phone supports it and you have to be near an access point
    - case is made out of plastic - whereas TT is metal

    I would have to add:

Form factor not as nice, and the new shape requires YET ANOTHER case.

Keypad--too many moving parts to break down.

I'm not sure if I find it ugly, but the form factor is awfully big for me. I wonder if the keyboard on it is backlit? That's among the problems I have with keyboard based PDAs - how do you use them at night?

Otherwise the TC sounds like the 800 pound gorilla of the Palm line. WiFi would be great to have in a handheld. I have a bluetooth setup with mine and I can't get much range out of it. And forget about speed. The WiFi connection? Doesn't 802.11b handle 11 MB/sec? That's fast! That would be on blazing hotsync.

The TC isn't for me but I still find it to be very impressive. Me? I need bluetooth for hotsyncing (wired hotsyncs don't work for me - don't get me started), like a smaller footprint, and don't really need WiFi.

(I just figured out my use at night question - 5.2.1 has built-in grafitti anywhere functionality)

As I said in a T/C forum thread, if Palm could only put T/C's features in a T/T's or m515's case, with integrated bluetooth, virtual grafitti area, dual SD card slot and exchangeable batteries, they'd have made the perfect PDA... well maybe that day isn?t that far away, hopefully for the release at EOY. Until then, I love my T/T and plan to keep it for a while.

    Read this...

    http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/wifi.htm

    "... runs at a maximum of 11 megabits/second"

There are 8 bits to a byte so you have to divide 11 megabits by 8 to get the Per Megabyte figure. So in this case we actually get 1.375 Mbyte per second. Of course, this max speed is dependent on signal strenghth.

A reason not to buy a Tungsten C?

Because my Tungsten T performs all that I want from it. There's no reason to change to a new model if your current model does what you want it to do!

    Doesn't it?

i love my T|T, but i would sell it and buy a T|W if the W had bluetooth instead of WiFi. even though both my home and workplace have wifi, i want to be always connected, which at this point is something i can only have with bluetooth. now if the T|W had two SD slots, i'd buy a bluetooth SD card, and it'd be a wrap!

I don't know amin, looking at your avatar, I don't think you need another handheld. It would seem that you are well-equipped with portable technology.

Where did you read that the headphone jack is mono? Palm says it's stereo:

WiFi vs Bluetooth is going to be a personal choice. I guess I'd rather have WiFi if I were starting from scratch, but I've already made a significant investment in Bluetooth. I *was* hoping that Bluetooth would become universal, a sort of a replacement for I/R, but Palm doesn't seem to be going that way. At this point, there is one place in the whole world that my Bluetooth is useful; here at home where I have a desktop computer anyway.

All that said, there are still a lot of reasons that the T|T is a better choice for many of us. If I were buying today, I might have a tough choice between the Z71 and the T|T, but I'd never be caught dead with a T|C. For someone else the T|C might be the only Palm handheld they would consider. One man's poison is another man's meat and I for one am glad to see Palm trying to spread their wings and offer a variety of handhelds and features as if there were a search for the one true perfect handheld.
