Is this a good thing for LIon batteries? I heard it's not good to hard discharge them...shortens life.

That's correct. The best practice is to recharge them often and don't let them get too low.

You don't need to worry about permanetly damaging your Palm because there's a cut-out circuit to stop the battery from discharging completely. However, when that cut-out circuit cuts in, you lose the contents of your Palm's RAM.

I've never gotten my TT low enough to see those things happen... at approximately what % of the battery do services like BT cut off, and at approx. what % do you, in effect, have a virgin Palm again (RAM wipeout)?
