Do you want to back up to RAM or to the card?
BackupBuddy will back up all the data on your Tungsten to your PC on each sync, and has a PRC component that can back up the RAM to the card, although I'm not sure if that part has been updated for OS5 yet or not. The other part runs on your PC so it will work regardless of your OS version.

BackupBuddy VFS backs up the RAM on your Tungsten to the SD card. I have it set up to do this automatically at 4am each morning. It works flawlessly.

My newbie ignorance is going to show here ...
what is the difference between hot-sync and back-up?
Do I need to get this "backup buddy" program or does hot syncing keep and save all of my system and data?
I just ordered a Lexar 256mb sd card - I hope to learn to use this for storing and running powerpoint programs etc., but should I also use this for "backing Up"?
Thanks
Sharon

I use backupbuddy VFS same as already posted to do this at 3am. It backs up everthing from Ram to the memory card. I believe the Hotsync does not back everything up, in particular 3rd party applications and possibly there corresponding data. I think the software creator has to set things so their files are backed up at Hotsync.
With Backupbuddy VFS on my palm, I can do a backup, reset the palm to erase all data and programs and then restore all files from the memory card (the program is automatically put on the memory card). I've done this many times and it works fine.Keeping the economy going buy buying

BackupBuddyVFS is not fully compatible with OS5. I have it installed on my Tungsten. While it appears that you can perform a complete backup of RAM to an SD card, and you may be able to perform a complete restore from an SD card, you cannot selectively backup or restore individual files. At least not without a great deal of trial and effort. As joep pointed out, the BackupBuddyVFS section on the Blue Nomad site states in part "....OS 5 Devices including Palm Tungsten are not supported at this time..."
Sounds to me like it's use at your own risk until the supported version is released.

You're right. I don't do selective back ups, so I didn't notice that this wasn't operative on BackUpBuddy VFS. It works fine for complete backups.
