Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
Hello All,
I have a dead T3 (prob batteries) that I don't need anymore. But I want to move the data from my corporate computer to my private computer ... I'm retiring!!!!
I've read your notes about going to usedpdaparts.com and having it repaired and am thinking about that.
However I would like not to spend the money. Is there a way to transfer the data without the PDA?
I've been reading your advice to others and think if anyone should know it would be someone in this group.

Re: Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
Depends on what you want to move. Are you using Palm Desktop for your PIMS at work or Outlook? If Outlook and you have Outlook at home, it would be very easy.
What other applications do you sync with your computer at work?
I am assuming you are not planning to use a PDA at home?Hook's Stories

Re: Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
what is a PIMS?
I just want to move the contact information
we used lotus notes at work not outlook
i don't know what you mean by "What other applications do you sync with your computer at work?" i didn't know there were any other apps that sync'ed.
sorry for the lack of knowledge but i'm not a techy. Because i always travel with my computer i don't have a need for the pda. i suppose i could have it repaired but the battery life of the T3 was so short it was useless.
thanks for taking the time to respond and any help you can give me.

Re: Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
Sorry, PIM is "Personal Information Manager" and refers to the standard four programs on the Palm that handle calendar, contacts, to-do and memos.
Is the contact information currently in Lotus Notes? I'm sure it has a way to export that information into files you can copy and take home. I don't know Lotus Notes, but I think there are some folks here that do. H might be one of them.
Do you just want to print the contacts or do you want them in electronic form that you can use on a computer at home? I assume the latter, but you sometimes sound like you are leaving behind all tech when you retire.

Re: Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
apologies for not being more specific
My company was very careful not to allow integration of personal with corp software so i used the palm desktop software as a stand alone but on the corp computer. So all i need to do is transfer the contacts folder from hard drive at work to hard drive at home. sure i could just print out and i've done that before for a trip but i would like to electronically transfer. i attached the contacts folder to an email from work to home ... silly but i thought it might work ... and put it into the palm folder on c:drive. didn't work needless to say. lotus notes at work and outlook at home. i just installed the palm software at home and have not integrated it into outlook ... cause i don't know how to do that. i was just planning on using palm desktop alone as i always have (because of company rules). and yes you are correct ... i'm leaving behind the corp computer but setting up my own at home. first time in 15 years i've had a personal computer!!!! what a process to decide which one to buy!.

You will have to install download and install Palm Desktop. Then check that your data can be displayed in Palm Desktop. To get the data into Outlook you might have to purchase PocketCopy from Chapura.com since you no longer have your device in a syncable state.

thanks Dick. guess there is no way to get around spending money except manual data entry. looks cheaper than getting the T3 repaired. appreciate the info.

Re: Moving Palm T3 data without the PDA ... help
If I am reading correctly, you have the Palm desktop installed at work and you have contact data in the Palm desktop that you want to have at home, also in Palm Desktop? Is that right? If so, you should be able to do it without spending any money for additional software.
All, please take a look at the following steps to see if they should work:
1. Install Palm desktop and create a user(hotsync ID) that is exactly same as the user you have at work.
2. On your work PC, go to c:\Program Files\Palm\ and look for your user folder. The user folder is the folder that is specific to your hotsyncID and it could be named anything depending on your HSID. You may have to open a few folders to find the one that has your address, archive, backup, etc folders.)
3. Copy the whole user folder to c:\Program Files\Palm your home PC with Palm Desktop installed.
Make sure your Palm Desktop is closed when you do this. When you open it, all your PIM data(contacts, calendar, tasks, memos) should be there. I have done this a few times and it should work. It's not Outlook, but you have your contact information on your home PC.
