Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
I have had two T5's with the same power button fault. I got the first T5 replaces but kept the 2nd and decided to put up with it.
Now I need to do a hard reset.
I need to know:
1) Will this [quoted-see above] deliberately wrong-password thing work? how?
2) If I re-assign another button to on/off, will I be able to use it for hard reset?
3) How do I disassemble the T5 to attempt switch repair?

Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
1) Not sure about the password thing, but I think if a password is set and the device is locked, when you enter a wrong password repeatedly, after a certain number of attempts the device hard-resets, I could be mistaken.
2) If you want an easier way to hard reset, a new app was just released called PowerBtn which can hard reset your device automatically :-)
3) There are some guides for doing this already posted elsewhere on the forums here, and I am sure they could be found with a quick search

Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
As an alternative, there's another hard reset program out there:

I've not tried either of them.Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
Tablet: Kindle Fire
The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
Incidentally, the Hard Reset app you linked to is actually the same routine in the PowerBtn app (the developer shared the code). PowerBtn also let's you assign a hard-button to power off. Both are totally free.
I have tried PowerBtn on my T5 and it worked like a charm. The Drunkard

Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
It took some fiddling but the wrong password trick did hard reset one of my T5's. Not sure about the answers to the other problems. As an alternative, write the CEO of Palm, be nice and respectful but tell him this has been a repeated problem and you'd like to be a continued supporter of Palm and he should agree to fix yours. It worked once for me.

Power button needed for hard reset
I have had two T5's. The first had a faulty power button from the start. It was replaced with a second T5. This T5 now has the same problem.
I now need to do a hard reset.
1)What's this password technique again? Do you deliberately get your password wrong - then the system resets all by itself?
2) As a last resort, how do I take the T5 apart? Now that I have the torx screws off, what do I do next?

Re: Power button needed for hard reset
1) I looked at the Security Prefs panel and I see that in order for the device to delete your files upon a wrong password, you must enable the "Intrusion Protection" and specify that it delete all data. However, I am unsure of whether it is actually a hard-reset that is performed. Can anyone confirm that is actually a hard-reset? You may also find it easy to use PowerBtn or Hard Reset OS5, linked to in previous posts, to perform a hard-reset without using the power button.
2) As for the opening your device, you will want to follow some directions found here. If your confident with soldering very small electronics, its not unreasonable to do the repair yourself.
Good luck with it!The Drunkard

Re: T5 Power Button Out....Again
Any chance those of you having power button problems are also using Emulators? I understand that some emulators use the power button as a Control button, which is not really what it is designed for.
