    Default random thoughts about TE

i just got a TE, i had a handspring Visor Deluxe ( a dinosaur compared to TE) and i was told that the battery life of the TE is about 1 year before it shows signs of dying. i did not nut it becuase of that, i actually bought it for the functionality. it is so fast and has better porgs than a the old palmOS 3.1. i have a few wonders:

what is the true life of the battery?

why does the ram fill up so quick?

Who thought of putting word, excel, and powerpoint on a palm device?

are there any tricks that i can use?

One of the first things I would do if I were a new TE owner is download and install Filez an excellent freeware file management tool for your Palm. Depending on what you use it for, there are so many junk files on TE. For example, I didn't need any of the phone files, so I deleted them. I did this mannually with my TE because I didn't know about Filez and it was kind of a pain. But one of our members made a list of the unecessary files and it is posted on this site. Use the search feature on the site to find it and many other problems you want to solve. There is some really good information offered by members of the group.

P.S. You can find filez at http://www.palmgear.com

The Lithium-Ion battery contained in the Tungsten E should last you for about 2 years.....then you either have to throw away the device and buy a whole new one (what PalmOne wants you to do, thus the term "disposable product") or you can buy another battery for $45 or so. It will NOT last only one year as someone has told you.

The battery itself has a shelf life of 8 years or so if you do not use the TE at all.....

where can I buy a battery for a 505? It works fine but only in the cradle. It's out of warrranty so no worries about voiding.

If you want to buy batteries for PDAs online look at www.pdainternalbattery.com. By the way, I couldn't imagine opening my T|E because of that star shape screw...obviously Palm didn't want it's customers to open their PDAs but then if some of you are worried about your battery life, you'll just have to try.....when I bought my T|E the man at the shop said that if the battery gives up he can change it for me.

How does one determine what is a junk file anyway?
I have a lot on my T/E and hate not knowing what each file is associated with.
