T|C or iPaq 3115
OK guys I need some serious help here. I got my wife to get me a T|C for Christmas. I used it for a couple of days then started playing with an iPaq at Office Depot. I liked it, especially the smaller size and ease of synching with Outlook so I swapped my Palm for it. I'm beginning to question if I have done the right thing.
Advantages of the iPaq:
* Smaller in all dimensions, lighter. It fits in my pocket easily whereas the T|C is a bit large.
* Synchs easily with Outlook (which is what my company uses for scheduling conference calls, etc so this functionality is essential
* Built in support for Word and Excel documents without having to convert them before displaying on the handheld
* Better WiFi reception than the Tungsten
Advantages of the Palm:
* Keyboard is excellent -- I really miss it.
* Much better resolution screen
* Better battery life
* Better user interface -- less cluttered
* I am a Palm user for 7 years and I'm comfortable with the layout of the Palm
* Better build -- the iPaq feels cheap next to the Tungsten
I am really leaning toward going back to the T|C but the Outlook synch is the one thing that has me bothered. How reliable is synching with Outlook on the Palm? Do all your schedule items show up correctly? Any issues? If I can convince myself that Outlook will work correctly, I'm going back to the Tungsten.
Thanks
Todd

While I can't tell you about Outlook, the newer versions of Documents To Go (6.0 and above) provide full native support for Word and Excel, plus 7.0 provides native support for Power Point and various image formats. palmOne.com gave me a free upgrade for my TC, you might want to look into it. Also, you can get recent versions from palm handhelds being displayed in stores.

Outlook and native Office documents isn't a problem for the TC

FabianWho doesn\'t honor the Zire, is not worthy of a Tungsten.

Ahh, the ol' iPaq vs. T|C dilemma?.
It all depends on what all you plan on doing. As for Outlook Calendar, I use DataViz Documents to Go v6 & their Beyond Contacts. I don?t synch email but calendar synching is essential. It works like champ.
As for the rest, the Pocket PC?s have some nice built in interoperability with windows networked systems including native Word & Excel. The T|C requires add on software, most of which is reasonable. The keyboard is really nice and the screen is good. However, my personal opinion and experience is that Palm service is basically unpleasant. My T|C died within a few months and I had to pay Palm to fix it. (Search on Palm and service.) There is also some restlessness around how long the T|C will be around.
Once loaded with software and if you have one of the T|Cs that seem solid, it is a good device. A bit clunky in size, but good wireless and excellent battery life.
You are almost in the apples and oranges debate. Some searching on Palm and Ipaq or Palm and Pocket PC may help.
Good luck,
Doug

I bought my TC on february 2004 and even if I could apply, it's a hassle to receive things sent from USA (I would need them to send the CD to a courier and then my courier would charge me again for sending it to me...) Thanks anyway
