    Angry Wi-Fi and Cisco VPN

I am a student at Boston University and they have a campus-wide wireless network that uses a Cisco VPN network. I am unable to connect using the supplied VPN client and am in search of one that will work. I did read on the BU website that users of Tungsten C will be able to access the network once Palm releseases OS 6 as this is scheduled to supposedly contain a solution to this problem. Can anyone either verify this information regarding OS 6 (and if it will ever become available and compatible with Tungsten C) and/or provide a possible solution to log onto the web with some other third party manufacturer of a VPN client. Thanks a lot!!

I am not sure what 6.0 is scheduled to offer is light of T|C campatibility with Cisco routers. I would think that Cisco needs to develop a VPN client for the Palm OS. When you say "supplied VPN client" are you saying you were supplied Palm OS VPN client software?

When I supplied. I was referring to the mergic PPTP client. Here is a link that Boston University mentions about OS 6 and compatibility...

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

The BU website mentioned Certicom's Movian VPN client (an IPSec client) as being compatible. Certicom has a beta version of the Movian VPN that works on the Tungsten C. You might have to write to support@certicom.com to get an evaluation copy of the beta.

Charles River Campus does not utilize PPTP, only IPSec for VPN, thus the Mergic VPN that is embedded within the Palm OS is useless. It uses a Cisco VPN Concentrator 3000 or something along that line. I've tested the Certicom Palm client, and it works partially, I can login and authenticate and check email but web browsing is screwed up.

    Default BU...HAHA

Thanks a lot for heads up an what BU is up to. Want to start a revolt? I am kinda pissed off to tell you the truth. I wanted to be able to access email and the web from anywhere.
In regards to the movian VPN, did you install the one for the Tungsten W?

Tested only the Palm one, not the Tungsten W one. Got an email from Certicom about support for the T|C and they said that they are releasing a client in a few weeks. So all hope is not lost.

    Default IPSEC setting using MovianVPN

    Hi,

I got the evaluation copy of the MovianVPN. While setting those up for my university VPN concentrators (Cisco 3000) I am asked to set up IPSec CryptoSuite... or the IKE Crypto Suite.... If I leave the default setting I am not able to have it working. So if anybody has used it succesfully, what settings did you use? Thepeople at the IT help desk at the university don't have a clue abou it...

    Thanks
    Nick

I wrote an email to certicom support and they are sending me new client. When I give it a try I'll let you know how I make out.

    Default It works now!

    Hi,

I managed to have the MovianVPN to work with my university network. It's critical that you get the right address for the VPN server. In my case thy gave me the wrong one..... Anyhow all the default settings are usually good, so what you really need is the gateway server address, the type of server (in my case it was Cisco VPN Concentrator 3000), the group name and password. This should be enough.

    Nick
