Default TC's final post <sniff>, and maybe Palm's last post too.

My TC has served me well, but the battery life has reduced to less than 30 mins WiFi, and the WiFi function is intermittent. My new PDA arrives tomorrow morning, and TC will be retired shortly after. The only option of continued work for TC will be to live in the glovebox of my car and act as my satnav.

Sadly, there's nothing in the Palm line that offers what I need, so my new PDA isn't a Palm.

When I bought my TC, it was the most powerfull PDA on the market. Its replacement, I believe, is currenntly the most powerfull and full-featured PDA on the market. No, not a Blackberry, my new PDA is an MDA Vario III.

Like Psion, Palm will always have a place in my heart. But it's time to move on.

So sorry to hear of the TC's demise

I have the version of that device that's sold in the U.S. as the AT&T Tilt. It is indeed a stellar smartphone. Please share your impressions of it in this forum:

I am sorry to learn that your TC is being retired, or put to pasture, as many other devices that have lost their new appeal.

The TC (IMHO) is one of Palm's best units, and an early WiFi offering, was cutting edge, it was a shame Palm never kept the unit's ROM image current, providing the new extended PIM apps and updates to WiFi and security offerings.

The TX came close, but without the inbuilt keyboard, it still was never a true replacement for the TC.

Enjoy your newest gadget and it is hoped it will serve you well.

@ cassi - It's still good for everything but WiFi, but my 'Project' to 'Be online all the time' requires connectivity.

@ (Mr) Ed Hardy - Wow, I am honoured, Sir. I had looked at my options weeks ago and narrowed it down. After a 4-hour surfing session until 3am this morning, I was ready to make a snap-decision. I had seen an HTC device called the Tilt and I guessed it was the Vario III. People seem pleased with it except video. I'm on T-mobile here in the UK, but I'll certainly pop in to that forum when I can.

@ H - Without looking back, I think you helped when I was considering my options before. In the running was the Blackberry Curve, but last night I began to suspect that it doesn't support WiFi, and the browser is poor from what I've heard. Thanks for the input.

@ BAB2000 - The TC's specs are still way up there. I'm suprised at how little things have progressed hardware-wise, but as you say, lack of software updates have consigned it to the museum of innovation. My business partner has a TX, but no keyboard = no sale for me.

Gotta watch I don't get hooked on BH again

I just read Ed Hardy's review of this device here. Glad I didn't read it before, because I was have procrastinated further.

Sad to see yet another T|C owner move on, but I'm one to talk since I recently "downgraded" (haha) to a Palm Treo 755p from my T|C.

    However...

I still have my T|C and it's still working great. I just got tired of carrying 3-4 different devices around and the 755p gets a much better phone signal than my dedicated Motorola mobile phone did.

I just got done putting the heaviliy modified iPhone-ish ZLauncher theme on my T|C, just like what I have 755p, and as I sat there looking at my wonderful T|C, feeling that familiarly spaced keyboard under my thumbs, and looking at the very pretty and unique Vaja iVolution case on it (that I can't get for my 755p because they don't make this style for it) I found myself thinking, "Why couldn't you have a phone radio, too?" I didn't care about the lack of updadted PIMs -- I use DateBk6 and I actually like the older Contacts app better than the new one. I had an upgraded browser (not Blazer, but that's not necessarily a bad thing), and I had the VersaMail upgrade, too. The cost of unlimited data made my phone bill go up quite a bit each month, too, and no option for using Wi-Fi on the 755p.

Maybe I should've just bought pants with more pockets....or carried a man-purse? LOL

I'm keeping the T|C...my oldest son or daughter might end up with my 755p, and I might just go back to a regular ol' cell phone. Only time will tell. I like my 755p, but I also still like the T|C.
