Default Need Help with Windows Update Error Message

Thanks for the welcome Moderator. I do have a "technical" question with my Palm 800 phone and would love to have some real fix it info. When I go to SETTINGS and click on SYSTEMS and click on WINDOWS UPDATE and click on CHECK NOW, I get an ERROR message that says " Connection to update server was not available. Check your data connection settings and ensure the device date and time are correct. I did those things and still get the error message. Anyone have a cure?

Default Need Help with Windows Update Error Message

I have given your post its own thread and retitled it for the purposes of attracting traffic to your question. I regret that I cannot assist in the problem itself as I have no experience with the WinMo end of things but there are others here who will be able to help. Give it a day or so; be sure that you've set your Forum preferences to be notified by email when there is a reply to your post so that you'll know right away when there is a response.

Have you tried searching Google using the error message? Sometimes it sheds light on others who have handled this already.
Experience is what you get when you thought you were getting something else.

    Welcome to Brighthand, beamerbill!

I'm still rather new to WinMo so I'm not sure how much help I can be. My limited experience is with the Sprint TP2. Can I assume you're on the Sprint network? You might try a PRL and/or Profile update. I can do that from settings on my phone, but you might need to ask Sprint first.

Thanks, I actually went to the Sprint store and the clerk laughed at me like I was holding a dinosaur and wanted to sell me a new phone. I also haven't been able to sync my phone calendar with my computer Palm program, any ideas?

Windows Update on Windows Mobile is vapor-ware. It has never worked. It never will.
Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
    Tablet: Kindle Fire

The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Thanks for that bit of info. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IF THEY HAD TOLD ME WHEN I BOUGHT THE PHONE THAT THERE WERE THINGS THAT DIDN'T WORK. I'll move on.

I never owned one, but I thought the 800W was a decent phone. I had the Palm 755p, and the Treo form factor is very nice. I know the 800W wasn't the greatest WinMo phone on the planet, but from what I understand it's a decent smartphone. Sorry the Sprint rep wasn't helpful. It's not really a surprise, but at a minimum they shouldn't ridicule your device. Even though they're not the most knowledgeable, they're at least supposed to feign interest in trying to help you.

I'm pretty lucky in Minneapolis. The Sprint reps are pretty good. The store I go to isn't a corporate store (it's a franchise) and they're an authorized service center. They've helped me more than once w/o charge, and in return, I teach them something new about their phones. They seem glad to see me, even though they can't sell me a phone (I'm on the SERO plan and can only purchase phones from their corporate stores).

I think it's just the magic of Minneapolis-St. Paul (I'm being serious). People there are as nice (or nicer) than just about anywhere I've been. It probably goes for cell-store reps. too.

P.S. Plus you get the incomparable Masala Mama IPA at Town Hall Brewery whenever you want it! Geez, I think I hate you... (kidding).

I never heard of the Town Hall Brewery. Is that in the same building as the old Dudley theater (the ETC)? I have been to Bullwinkle's Saloon across the street. I think Bullwinkle's has been there for 30 years or so -- before and after Grandma's Saloon.
