The rep gave me her email address and CID so I could order directly from www.sprint.com/everythingplus if I want. The 500 minute plan is $59.99, but not eligible for any corporate discount. That's kind of stupid since the normal 500 minute plan is $69.99 and anyone on the planet can find a corporate discount that would be better than 15%. My corporate discount is 22%. In other words, if I were to ever leave SERO, I would not go with one of these other SERO replacement offers. They're just not as good as the typical corporate discount.

So, I'm back to considering getting another 755p as a backup device.
Jig, you've ruled out the Treo Pro?
Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2

You know, it depends on the day and my mood. I can't remember if the rep said I could put the Pro in SERO or not. I'm fairly certain it can, since it precedes the Palm Pre and any phone prior to that should work (excluding the Instinct).

I'm not thinking clearly about this.

There are 3 reasons why I've considered upgrading:

    1. I'm eligible for the $150 upgrade discount.
    2. I was concerned that the 755p might get discontinued. If my phone died and I couldn't get a replacement through Sprint, what would I do?
    3. It'd be nice to get a new smartphone with a slick new look, new features, and more to play with.

Jumping on the upgrade discount just for the sake of getting the discount is kind of silly. I suppose I could use it to get a free phone as a backup (although that'd mean using it for at least 90 days to get the rebate). It's really not a great idea (but don't put it past me ).

As far as the 755p getting discontinuted, there's no reason for me to panic. There are 755p's for about $100 on ebay. That's what Sprint sells them for after rebates and discount.

When I'm thinking clearly, I realize I should just sit tight and enjoy my smartphone and cheap plan. In fact, I might even buy a new battery or 3 for it.

My 755p does a lot. Newer phones might be thinner or look slicker, but in the end, they don't do much more than what I've got and in some cases, they do less (i.e., free tethering).

I won't move to the Pre until (among other things) tethering becomes an option. I sure hope this happens soon!

Tethering is an option, but not 'supported' on the Pre. Use with caution.

I've been making small purchases related to the 755p over the past few months which is making me feel more and more committed to it for the next year or so. Not too long ago, I purchased Softick Audio Gateway, upgraded pTunes, upgraded Docs2Go, and I just ordered a new battery for $6.77 (on sale). My current battery is still working great, but I left a video running when I fell asleep last night and neglected to plug it in. My battery was completely dead this morning. For around $7 (no tax, free shipping), a second battery is really a no-brainer.

My SERO contract expired, but I don't see a need to renew it. Sprint doesn't typically cancel or modify existing plans, even if they're out of contract. My upgrade discount should still be there when I do decide to get a new phone. If Sprint discountinues carrying it, I can get a replacement 755p for about $100 on eBay (while it's the same price, Sprint's would be new and with warranty, but I'm not too concerned). Another option when I do decide to (or need to) replace my 755p would be the Treo Pro.

So, for now, my decision makes sense for me: stick with what I have and don't worry about buying a backup device.

I just broke down and ordered a new 755P as a backup. I have not found anything yet that I like better, and this phone just rocks for me. I am happier with it now that I was when I got it. It is stable and does everything I need it to do and more. I am hoping that someday WebOs will have the functionality that the Palm platform had, and then I will be ready to switch over. There is much still much zen left to take advantage of.

Cathearder, if you are not willing to migrate into another platform & that's it with Palm OS, AFAIK the Treo 755p remains among the best choices ever. Several BH'ers, Jig included, have praised it. My dad owns one. BTW, I own a Treo 680 and it is surprisingly unstable if compared to the 755p (or, the other way around). These two devices used to be announced as clones with just a different cellphone radio. Nope, at all. The 755p is very stable, especially if you take into account that we're talking about Palm OS smartphones, this is devices that stopped being stable years ago.

WebOS, in short, will not be similar in many things to Palm OS. Sadly, cause many features, however proven stable and popular, were abandoned in favor of more flashy-thing factor. Wow factor instead of functionality.
