Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
I'm trying to be patient. I'd like to see what the Pre can do. If it really won't work with SERO as nearly all are saying, then that's out for me. The Pro seems pretty cool, esp. w/WiFi, but I'm still unsure about the keyboard. Besides, it's $200 plus whatever apps I'd need (e.g., PDANet). So, getting a backup 755p seems like an attractive, reasonable investment. I like the phone, it does all that I want and need right now, and should serve my needs well for another contract cycle. It's just that I'm working my way up to a fairly decent mid-life crisis and the 755p might not be sexy enough.

Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
I spoke with a SERO rep at Sprint on Saturday. She said no new smartphones will be allowed on the SERO plan. Existing smartphones, like the 755p and Centro, can still be used on SERO. She said the HTC Touch Pro2, when it comes out, will require one of the newer plans.
The rep gave me her email address and CID so I could order directly from www.sprint.com/everythingplus if I want. The 500 minute plan is $59.99, but not eligible for any corporate discount. That's kind of stupid since the normal 500 minute plan is $69.99 and anyone on the planet can find a corporate discount that would be better than 15%. My corporate discount is 22%. In other words, if I were to ever leave SERO, I would not go with one of these other SERO replacement offers. They're just not as good as the typical corporate discount.
So, I'm back to considering getting another 755p as a backup device.

Ugh...that sucks Jigs.
Does Sprint let you buy something unsubsidized and add it to your account? If the savings is significant enough through SERO then the premium for the phone might be worth it.

Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
It would have to be a Sprint phone.
It doesn't suck that bad. I have to put this into perspective. What am I missing out on? A bigger screen and better browser. If I got an "upgraded" smartphone, I think I'd lose battery life, free tethering, and all the great apps available for the Palm OS. I'm very lucky to have Sprint SERO and the 755p.

Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
As you probably noticed from other threads, I ended up "adding on" instead of buying something different or getting another 755p. The Nokia N810 Internet Tablet gives me the bigger screen, better browser than anything out there, and painless free bluetooth tethering (seriously -- paired the two and bam! I was surfing), and still get to benefit from all the apps for my Palm as well as all the (mostly free) ones for the N810. The N810 even has a Palm Garnet emulator that isn't exactly perfect, but could allow me to run another calendar, contacts, etc. I'm more than happy to continue using my 755p for calendar, contacts, alarms, etc., (a good PIM suite is sorely lacking from the N810) while using the N810 more as an even more portable replacement for my notebook computer. It's a great combination and makes it clear to at least me that the Palm Foleo could've been successful. This is my Foleo.
I still don't know what I'm going to do if my 755p fails, though. I'd probably go with something completely different, because the Palm options for me simply aren't there since they consider PalmOS to be dead. There's no point in remaining loyal to Palm when they didn't remain loyal to me by allowing my current Palm app investment to work on their new phones. And I thought the upgrade to a Garnet device was bad....at least some apps that I had still worked.Samsung GALAXY Note II

Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
Right but could you buy a phone from Sprint and add it to your contract if you paid the no-contract price? Or is your SERO contract so restrictive that the plan is void if used with a verboten phone?
For example, say the price of the Touch Pro 2 off contract on Sprint is $500...could you buy it and activate it on your SERO if you paid the full $500, or will they not allow you to do that?

Re: Should I get a spare 755p?
The phone has to have an ESN that's permitted in the plan. You simply cannot put a phone on the lan that they don't allow. This isn't like GSM networks where you can drop a SIM into the phone and expect it to work. VZW and Srint not only know you have one of their allowed phones, they know exactly which model phone it is. A lot has been writtne about this related to SERO and the Instinct and the Pre. Some have suggested cloning the ESN from another phone, but I'm not about to engage in that level of hacking.
