Default Treo HotSynch Opens to Windows Media Player

I just got a Treo 700wx and as I was connecting it, it asked me what to open the device with with the default as Windows Media Player and I accidentally clicked it YES.

Now, I can't hotsynch. When I try, it just opens Windows Media Player. Here's what I've tried:

    Hard Restart
Went to devices and deleted device and reconnected
    Removed Palm Software and redownloaded

Help. How do I get the Palm Desktop to open when I press the hotsynch.

    welcome to Brighthand, kerri38846!

the problem lies with what files/devices Windows is associating with WMP; in WMP, you want to navigate to the Options area, found under Tools, in the menu bar. I expect you'll find your Treo under the 'Devices' tab, but there might be something under the 'Files' tab, as well.

hopefully, that's all it'll take to get WMP to stop hogging the show. let us know what happens

    Thanks for the tip

But good news and bad news. It's THERE, but I can't actually remove it or change the default. I can change LOTS of preferences about the Treo on WMP, but I can't get rid of it except to unplug it from the computer.

Unplugging it just shows the device not there at all and so I can't alter any preferences or remove it.

Neither can I find any way to default to the Treo on the Palm Desktop.

    Ugh.

I didn't know the WM Palms could use Palm desktop. Don't you need Active Sync for syncing? There is no WM hotsync.

I never had a WM Palm, so I could be off base.

Well now, maybe THAT'S the problem! I've had Treo's for years and just got this one as a replacement and didn't know that there was a model that synced to WM. Ok, well. That solves that problem.

    Thanks!

Soo, can I get my contacts to be synched to something so that I have a backup?

I'm guessing you need to download Active Sync. Go here:

    Palm.com : Support

Pick which carrier you are branded for and go from there.
