Re: Unexpected error #1857 ( Palm n Macbook )
Welcome to Brighthand, bertchu!
I used Palm with my Macbook with very little trouble, but it's been years since I've used it. I do remember some "unexpected error" situations. Sometimes, if you get an error during hotsync, it has to do with corrupted data either on the desktop or on the phone. You can get dbfixit by pimlicosoftware and run it on the phone and let it clean up what it finds. You only have to pay if it finds something. I paid anyway. I like CESD software and want to support it.
Another way to sync with a Mac is Missing Sync from a company called Mark/Space. I'm not exactly happy with Missing Sync, but it works better for me than the Pocket Mac software provided when I got my Blackberry. Mark/Space makes versions for Palm, Windows Mobile, Android, Pre, Blackberry and probably more. Still, if I could avoid paying I would, so run dbfixit on your phone and try syncing again.
Perhaps somebody will come along who still uses a Palm device with their Macbook. You aren't running Snow Leopard are you? If so, you must enable Rosetta to run Palm Desktop. Rosetta is disabled by default. Even though I no longer use a Palm, every now and then I take a look at something in Palm Desktop just to see what my data looked like before Blackberry got ahold of it. But that's another story...

Re: Unexpected error #1857 ( Palm n Macbook )
Thanks Jeff.
Am basically okay now.
Noticed now that I will have duplicates in my contact list?
Not very sure why am experiencing these duplicates. From my understanding before, can avoid duplicates if after exits on either desktop or handheld, a synch should be made. But even with this, sometimes I still have duplicates? Am wondering why.
Many Thanks,
Bert

Re: Unexpected error #1857 ( Palm n Macbook )
I also experienced duplicates. I still get them. Some of the fault is the device, in your case Palm and in my case Blackberry. Some of the fault is Apple. iSync, which is used to control sync on OS X, often gets confused. There are help pages that deal with resetting iSync. Back up your data first!
I still have a legacy copy Palm Desktop and I enabled Rosetta in Snow Leopard just so I could still run it. Every now and then, I want to take a time warp back to what my data looked like in Palm Desktop.
If you decide to stop using Palm Desktop and use Address, I doubt things will get any better, but Address does offer a utility to merge duplicates. I found it creates other problems because it merges duplicates by concatenating fields it does not understand. If I had a duplicated contact with a note that said "owes dues for 2007", after letting Address merge duplicates it might read "owes dues for 2007owes dues for 2007owes dues for 2007". Kinda dumb.-Jeff

Re: Unexpected error #1857 ( Palm n Macbook )
Hi Jeff, Thanks again. Just got back to this site only now. This time, noticed a few text messages on my Treo 680 with missing words at the ends? Looks like these are possible longer messages? Had similar problem, and do not remember how Globe was able to resolve this? Any idea ? Wondering if the population of Palm users with Mac are dwindling ? Happy New Year. Regards, Bert
