Default What happened to my Phone call log/recent calls list?

While trying out the button launchers QLaunch, ButtonsEx, and Palm Commander Button Launcher, I noticed that a second press of my Phone button no longer brought up a list of recent calls along with the option to go directly to the call log. Because of the way these launchers function, I figured that this would be a feature I'd have to do without if I used one of these. Well, now that I have removed ALL of these launchers and any associated files, a second press of my Phone button still does not bring up my call list/call log, it just basiclly re-launches the phone app.

Anyone know how to restore this function?

    Thanks!

did you try the - Prefs>Personal>Buttons then Default?

You may have to do a hard reset.

Press the reset button from the back of the phone while pressing the power button; hold it down until you see the Palm Powered logo. When the logo appears press the up arrow to delete all data (it also wipes the username - be sure to resync to restore the user name).

No need to do a hard reset. There are some utilities some developers have created to reset the Phone application. IIRC you can get one from the site of the developer of Takephone and I think Datebk5 also.

No such utility that I could find at the Pimlico (DateBk4/5/6) site, and the apps at ShSh Software all look like phone enhancements--does one of these "reset" the phone as you say? If you mean reset to the default phone settings, I have tried that already.

I have run into the same problem. I work for a development company, and I installed our software, like a good boy, and found that it had hijacked my phone button. On a norml palm, just resetting the preferences is all thats needed, but I can't get the call logs to come back...those are KIND OF important to have on a cell phone.

While this is by no means a solution to your problem, there is an interim fix you can use to at least access your Call Log: create a new Favorites button in the Phone application, and in the "Type" drop down list, choose "Call Log" (and even assign it a quick key, if you'd like). This way you'll at least be able to get to your call log until you get the Phone button properly re-mapped.

Edit: for what it's worth, the directions for using Pimlico Software's (DateBk5) piece of software to reset the Phone button is outlined over in this thread. Download DateBk5, unzip the file, go into Advanced Stuff, and load the ResetPhoneButton.prc file. Hopefully, that'll work for you.

This is what I've been doing for a while in order to access the log. In fact, I use Butler to be able to call up the log from Favorites with a single button push-and-hold.

From the looks of this thread, this seems to be the solution I have been looking for! Unfortunately, I am on the road at the moment and don't have the ability to download the file and transfer it to my Treo; nor can I download it directly because I am roaming. So, I'm looking forward to getting back home and trying this.

BTW, I have upgraded to the DateBk6 beta. Am I correct to assume that the ResetPhoneButton.prc file is independent of DB5/6 and/or any specific version?

    Thanks!

I would assume so, since it's only fixing a setting for the mapping of the hard buttons, and that data is stored outside of the DateBk5/6 application. That said, as always, do a full backup of your Treo before installing the application.

By the way, for the moment the resetphonebutton.prc file is only included in the DateBk5 zip file, so you'll need to download that first (but, obviously, you don't need to install the main DateBk5 app... just install the resetphonebutton.prc file.)

    Thumbs up VIOLA!

In case you didn't already read my update here...

I found a computer with an SD card reader and I downloaded ResetPhoneButton.prc. Worked like a charm. Man, I love this forum!

Still, I'm wondering how this happened in the first place. The readme doc with the DB5 files stated about this issue: "Phone button got "Hijacked" on a Treo-650? This can happen if you installed an OLD version of DateBk5 on the Treo-650. You will need to install and run the applet, resetphonebutton.prc to reset the function back to the phonebutton. Installing V-5.4a will ensure it does not happen again." What's strange to me is this problem surfaced in late January. I had long-since been running DB5 v5.4a when I got my Treo several months earlier. Plus I have even done a hard reset or two since the problem began and still the most recently used list was gone. Could this have been the result of upgrading to DB6? Why didn't it go back to normal after hard resets?

Thanks again for making me an my Treo happy!
