    Thumbs up Re: VIOLA!

    Glad it all worked out!

If you did a system restore from a backup after your hard reset, then the files that store the hard button settings (it's either "Saved Preferences" or "Unsaved Preferences"), would have been restored along with it. Any earlier corruption of those button settings would still be in those files. However, your button settings should have been back to "nomal" (the default settings) immediately following the hard reset, and before restoring any prior data.
Could this have been the result of upgrading to DB6?
Possibly, but it could have been a carry-over setting from when you had DateBk5. While the Release Candidate of DateBk 5.4a did solve the re-assignment problem, there were six preview versions of 5.4a that were publicly released earlier, and the button settings issue didn't actually get fixed until v. 5.4a-p7 (preview 7). There are *tons* of interim releases of DateBk that contain minor fixes (and, yeah, the button re-assignment was considered minor). It's possible that you may have been running 5.4a-p6 or earlier before you made the move to DateBk6, and the button setting carried over. For what it's worth, DateBk5 is now at v5.4a-s6, and DateBk6 is at v.6.0-pC.

Either way, the current versions should have the problem fixed. If not, at least we now know of an easy fix.

Well, at least one of the hard resets was to upgrade the ROM with the latest update. I thought that would have been a pretty clean reset process. Would the settings backed up via hotsync abd then restored include such faulty/corrupted settings?

Either way, I'm just glad to be back in business with this feature.

    Thanks again!

Yup. Your "Unsaved Preferences" and "Saved Preferences" files would be restored right along with your applications and other data. Most of the time this restoration is a good thing since those files include a whole host of settings... your color theme choice, registration codes for software, and various other system preferences (like hard button assignments). But if there's a bad setting in there somewhere that can't be reversed... then you're stuck with it. At that point the only recourse is to delete those two files and go through the process of re-entering all your application registration codes, and putting all the system preferences back to your liking.

Or, find a handy application that corrects the problem without the need for drastic action.

Unhappy Re: What happened to my Phone call log/recent calls list?

I think I have the same or a similar problem. It's my boss's 650. When he tries to access his call log the phone shuts off and(I think) does a soft reset. It's a Sprint Treo 650 the 1.13a-SPNT software update has been performed. I don't know much about computer stuff, but I know much more than my boss. If anyone has a fix, could you gently walk me through the steps needed?
This is complicated because I'm not totally familiar with the 650, as I don't have or use one. I did the 1.13a update on this phone, though. The link in this thread to the BK5 software that has the file for the fix didn't seem to get me anywhere.

After reading this thread, I guess I'll stay the heck away from databk5 and 6! I need my call log and I like the fact that on the Treo 650, my call log can have more than 10 entries! It's under favorites in the phone app, and I never (almost never) hit the phone button twice to bring it up. This is because if I'm not careful, I end up dialing the most recent call before I notice instead of viewing the call log. BTW, there are two most recent call lists. One comes up when you hit the phone button twice. The call log with possibly hundreds (?) of entries is available from the second "favorite" button labelled "call log". I'm using Verizon, but I believe the phone apps to be fairly similar across various Treo 650's, right?
