    Default question about charging

Well, these are simple questions, but I hope to be moving to a Trio 650 from a Tungsten E when my Verizon phone plan is convenient.

Is it possible to charge the unit without using the computer? My wife and I charge our phones separately all the time.

We would probably be using the same computer to sinc and charge. Does the unit have to sit in the cradle in order to do this? If so, would *two* phones be sitting in cradles attached to one computer, if necessary, and would this work?

Or could they be charged separately, and just HotSync'd as necessary?

Probably these are really rudimentary questions, but pretty basic.

    Thanks!

If they're both Treo 650s, there is no need to connect two cradles to the computer, you can sync both with it. Put the second one somewhere convenient to use as a charging stand.

***Oh! So you're saying that the cradles can also be used just as "chargers" and not even connected to the computer? That's what it sounds like.

    Sorry for the ignorance. Thanks!

Yes, indeed. The USB cable does not need to be connected - just the power will work for charging.

***Got it! Thanks so much. Now one more little tiny question... I notice that on the *travel* chargers that the chargers are not really cradles, but it looks as though they might plug into the right-hand side of the "multi function" adapter thingy. Am I on the right track?

    Thanks!

Yes. The travel charger only plugs into the right side of the Treo 650.

I used that to charge my Treo in my car all the time.

***Ok... so I seem to be gradually catching on...

My only reservations, quite frankly, are the following:

    1) I have a *terrific* LG phone that is LOUD. I've heard complaints about the volume of the Trio, but I understand it can be remedied. I do, indeed, still need a PHONE...

    2) Also, the LG "folds over." I guess I would have to have the Trio in a case, which would make it bulkier... and, I *never* get "error" calls from keys being pressed since the keyboard is covered. I wonder if such "errors" happen with the Trio?

Ah, well, maybe the price of "progress"...

The Treo can be quite loud. There is an application called VolumeCare that can adjust various volumes and make it even louder.

I don't use a case for my Treo - I use eGrips instead. But I carry my Treo in my shirt pocket most of the time. Button presses are dealt with by using the keylock feature in conjunction with a great program called Butler. Your needs may be different.

***I carry my Tungsten E in my shirt pocket with no case... But the Trio may be a bit larger... We'll see... It's all a "brave new PDA-phone world" as I will, hopefully, adapt to the technology...

You can also buy a charger for about 5 bucks on Ebay and charge it whenever you want.
