I would never have thought of using the repair feature. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll try this on Monday and see if it works.
best regards.

confusion abounds on this topic. I'm advised by someone who ought to know that it is possible to synchronize the treo 650/LD on the same computer and I'm told, most recently this afternoon, by a treo 650 tech support person that it wasn't possible, and I should transfer data from the LD to the Treo 650 by beaming it.
One suggestion was to load the treo 650 on one computer and the LD on the other; unfortunately, I have two computers, one at home and one at work, and both have the LD software because I sync to both home and work locations.
I think I won't buy a third computer to load the treo 650 software.
so, for the moment, the treo sits unused while I try to figure out how to do this.

NOte to David and Irdiaz:
I've finally located another computer and I'm going to attempt to load the treo 650 software to it. I'll choose a different user name. But as to syncing, then, with my main lifedrive-PC, do I need to worry about any special synchronization instructions? I'm thinking of such matters as handheld overrides desktop and the like.
Thanks.

On the original PC you should have two Hotsync profiles, just make sure you select the appropriate actions for the applications on each device.
For Contacts, Calendar, etc, you can leave as Sync in both profiles. For other applications that do not exists on the Treo650, change to 'Do nothing' in the Treo650 hotsync profile.

For those who might be interested, this turns out not to be as complicated as it might seem. The problem is, however, that I was never able to locate written instructions, anywhere, that explain how to do this and the tech support folks at Palm seem to think it's not possible.
Well, it is.
I found another computer, made sure that it had no palm software anywhere, and loaded the treo 650 software.
I created a new user name on the software.
I then edited the user name on the main computer to reflect the addition of the NEW user name.
I have historically had great difficulty with docs to go--all kinds of sync problems. Consequently, I set docs to go up to ONLY sync on the LD, and not on the treo.
with the exception of outlook, the treo and ld share no programs in common so sync errors have been almost none existent.
So, it can be done.

I did the same thing. I went from a Treo600 to a Lifedrive&MotoV600, then went fro the V600 to the Treo650.
To make it work, you need to uninstall the Lifedrive Software. Then you need to load the Treo650 software. Finally, you need to re-install the Lifedrive software.
You must use different profile names for the treo650 and the Lifedrive. The first time you synch each device, select (or make) a new profile. You now can edit the individual synch profiles and load different software for each.
NOTE NOTE NOTE
Some software keys require the name of the profile to work. You change the profile, the key will not work. You may need to contact the software companies and get new keys (Tell them you upgraded to a lifedrive or treo650, blah blah blah, and they will give you the new key.)

I uninstalled the LifeDrive software, installed the Treo 650 software, and tried to re-install the LD software as described in previous posts.
The install never finishes, and I get an error message that states:
Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\palmOne.msi
Any ideas how to fix it?[I][COLOR="Blue"]Thanks,
Chuck

goto the microsoft website and look for file:
msicuu2.exe
Down this, load it and run it. Delete the palm install file from the list.

Thanks for the tip. This appears to have done the trick. Everything is installed and I am able to perform a HotSync Operation with both my LifeDrive and my new Treo 650
