For those of you with resetting 650's, I have an idea

I have been cursed by the constant soft resetting of my Treo 650. Probably in excess of 10 a day. I have performed hard resets to clear out all third party software just to see. Same problem. I finally called Palm after having the phone for 5 days and was told it was defective and that I should contact Cingular for a replacement. I was planning to, but started to notice something today.

When I first got my 650 from Cingular, my Voicemail favorite was not set correctly. I had them send an OTA (over the air) reset. I am pretty sure that is when I started having the reset issues. After resetting, my Treo would quickly soft reset. My Voicemail favorite would then be set to some sort of gibberish. The phone would continue to reset itself at random times. Eventually I would keep doing hard resets and having Cingular send another OTA to fix my Voicemail favorite. Today though, I noticed that my voicemail favorite is set to all 00000000000000. Instead of having them reset it, I have left it alone. I have tried repeatedly to get my Treo to reset itself (i.e., quickly moving from the Phone to Applications and back and forth, starting various applications, switching back to the Phone, locking the keyboard and coming back in). All to no avail. My Treo just will not soft reset right now.

My question (finally) for all of you with soft reset issues is this:

Do you notice anything similar happening to your Voicemail favorite number? If so, I wonder if a lot of these soft reset issues are related to bad SIMs that the Treo just cannot deal with until the Voicemail number is all 0000000000000000

Yes, the same thing happended to me. I think Cingular is having some issues with their network configuration settings over the air (OTA). If you hard reset and you still are having resets, before you assume the phone is bad call your carrier and verify all your plan information, features, voicemail, etc., and have them reissue an OTA update. IF THIS doesn't fix it, THEN you can assume the phone has other more serious problems...

I just got a repeatable soft reset. If I call myself using a landline and press Ignore on the Treo, boom, soft reset. I am getting a Fatal Exception with "Phone". Most of my other soft resets are not happening. Thaks for the info.

That sounds like a voicemail configuration problem to me. When you hit ignore the phone is supposed to drop you into voice mail. If it is not configured properly, it will reset your Treo, as it did mine. A call the my Cingular CSR fixed that.

Now I am at a loss. I was just getting ready to call in and have them send an OTA to reset the Voicemail favorite and it was already reset. I wonder if they send these out on a schedule. Interesting.

My Treo 650 resets all the time and it has nothing to do with voicemail. This product blows...

Mine resets if I add a new MEMO. I don't plan on adding too many, just adding to them.

When I got my Sprint Treo 650 back in November I went through the same resets.

Download Crash Pro and check the "loggings" setting. It will keep track of the software misbehaving causing the resets.

It was very helpful in alleviating the software conflicts causing the resets.

I also had a problem with the Voicemail resetting the phone # to 0000000000000's and ended up dragging that Favorites button to the last page (5) of the favoorites so it was out of the way. On my phone it would not let me change the Phone # on the default favorites page. So after dragging it away I made my own favorites voicemail button and used the Cingular access # and my password under the "More" button . There does seem to be a problem with the Cingular default voicemail activity in provided with the phone. This way I just went around it and now it works fine.

I was having reset issues with an unlocked Treo 650 on AT&T Wireless, but attributed it to the third party software I had installed. I removed most of it and have been running much better since.

I still have an occasional problem with Blazer, though, where if I turn off my device while Blazer is running, it will not turn back on. I get no response from any buttons, changes in state, etc. I even had it charging one time, and after removing the power cable the red charging light remained on. Only way out is to yank the battery.

Anyone else having this problem?
