Trickle Charging
Hi
Does the Treo 650 trickle charge if connected to a powered USB socket?

Re: Trickle Charging
Hi
After having my Treo 650 plugged-into a USB port for the whole corning and seeing the battery level creap up, I cn confirm that it does trickle-charge. The LED does not come on though and the charge is nothing compared to that gained using the AC adapter of a proper sync and charge cable.

Re: Trickle Charging
I think you first have to install an app called "USB Charger", coz it does not trickle charge via USB out of the box.

Re: Trickle Charging
Oh sorry.. I misunderstood. It will charge if you buy the special cable, however if you want it to charge with the sync cable that came with it (in which you have to plug in the charger to charge), for that sync cable to charge via USB, you have to use USB-Charger

Re: Trickle Charging
Hi
The Palm Trei 650 does trickle-charge out of the box just like any othe Palm device. I suspect that the software mentionned above allows the device to charge rather than trickle-charge.
A properly powered USB port will supply the same current as the AC adapter (i.e. 500mA). The device charges when this is supplied to its power socket (using the AC adapter or a Sync-&-Charge cable) but only trickle-charges when this is supplied to the Multi-Connector via the stardard cable. I deduce from the above that the Multi-Connector limits the current reaching the battery. Furthermore, the above software can only turn on or off something that is already there. It cannot create a pair of wires from the Multi-Connector to the battery to allow it to charge!!!
In summary, the Multi-Connector has a current-limiter circuit which is disabled by the above software. As for the LED, I suspect it only comes-on when power is fed through the power socket.
