Lightbulb Why buy a Treo 180?

    Why buy a Treo 180?

Awhile you might believe palmOne is no longer selling Treo 180s, maybe you need a Palm powered smartphone and the price at www.tigerdirect.com is just right for your wallet.

The Treo 180 is a excellent value in price and as a PDA. Awhile many newer pdas offer color , SD Slots or faster speeds- this is a good product for what it is- a PalmOS POWERED phone.

Default Beware the Treo! Good concept, weak hardware

    Dear Treo users,

Re: Beware the Treo! Good concept, weak hardware.

I am writing to warn people of the possible weakness of the Treo hardware.

I am a owner of a Treo 180 for the past year and a half, and in that time I have replaced my Treo 180 eight times. I would like to be clear ? I love my Treo ? it is an amazing concept, and when working, is a beautiful merge between a PDA and a phone.

Unfortunately for me, and many other Treo users, the hardware is fragile. All the replacements I have made are due to the failure of the hardware, Broken ear piece, voice piece, keypad, etc.

I have been happy with the service for the most part ? all phones have been replaced (pretty much) promptly.

Unfortunately this changed with the merger of Palm and Handspring. In November, due to the problems with the my Treo I was promised the new Treo 600 when it became available on the market in Canada(I have the promise from a manager recorded from my phone). In March when it became available I phoned, and have since been redirected and ignored by the customer care department. I have written 3 letters to the President and all members of the management team.

I am confident that the Treo 600 is an amazing concept. I am very much less confident that it is a durable piece of technology. From my experience ? take a pass on this until it is proven to be a long-lasting piece of hardware.

    Sincerely,

    Doug Ragan

The Treo 300 seems to be the weakest Treo, electrically. I gave as a gift a Sprint treo 300 to my sister. She loves it but she is already on her third 300. The one I gave her had the power connector melt on her and the 2nd died unexpectedly but she is wise. She works as a physician assistant , had a palm and a phone, and this kicks major booty and just hangs around her neck.

If anyone has the opportunity to consider a Treo, consider the 180 or the 600.

Although the 180 is discontinued, I have had excellent performance. My only peeves about it is the battery life (24 hours/1 hour talktime) and the speakerphone could be a little louder (I am a EMT and have some hearing loss thanks to the siren).

I just got a new 600 for ATT out of eBay. Got a great deal and all I had to do was switch out the GSM card. Resolution not as great as the TungstenW but it is a GREAT phone and a GREAT PDA.

Angry Terrible service on 180's in UK

I have owned a Treo 180 since 29/04/03 and it has never made it past a year without something major going wrong! The first time it had a catastrophic main firmware failure, the second time the keyboard failed, third time the cell phone refused to connect to Orange UK. I have been waiting for a replacement since August firstly from their repair agent A-Novo and now from Palm Repairs Celestica. They just don't seem to be able to despatch one to me. I'd like to write to the MD but don't know his name or where he is based can anybody help?
