Should I get a Treo 270?

I've been offered a cheap Treo 270 which I may get as an interim pda until PalmOne releases the new breed of Palms later in the spring.

Who knows, I may grow to like it so much that I won't need a new pda after all!

What are your experiences with the 270? Good and bad points.

How do you cope with the unupgradeable OS; is that a problem for you?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Wait until the Treo 610 comes out.
PDA + Webcam + Full functioning cell phone w/ internal speaker
It'll run you something in the area of 800 bucks. Then again, buying a Treo 270, and a newer Tungsten will, too.

I can't recommend buying a Treo 270. My Treo 270 caused three times a sever display problem within 18 months. Have a look on my thread.

I just got my Treo 270 from eBay yesterday. It is my first PDA, my second cell phone. The phone network reception is very weak. My previous phone, the T-Mobile "default" Samsung SGH-R225M, had EXCELLENT reception. Had no problems with it in my office nor at home.

With my Treo 270, can't get network in office OR at home.

I do LOVE the Palm stuff, though. The calendar, address book, notes all work very well. Syncing works with my MS Entourage on my PowerBook, with the caveat that at the end of the process, the Mac app crashes and the 270 hangs-- have to soft reset it.

However, i can't recommend it as a phone because the reception is so horribly bad.

I am speaking as a Treo 180 user for the last 2 years. It died so I have bought a treo 270. Despite some major service issues (the one I bought was a lemon and it took 3 months to replace), I still sing the praises of these devices. If you use a palm and want to check e-mail on the fly and not have to carry a cell phone too, then you will LOVE a Treo. You just can't compare a regular cell phone to a Treo smart phone. That's like comparing a corded home phone to your cell phone (not quite that bad). Of course you can get great cell phones with exceptional reception but Treo users are often looking to eliminate all the devices they carry on their belts.

I find the Treo an incredibly useful device! As for getting the 600 or better, I'm not overly impressed with the 600. The keyboard is teeny tiny, the screen is smaller, and the glass screen is exposed, and having a camera on the phone is gimmiky. I have been delighted with my Treo. There's really nothing like it. However, if you don't really use a cell phone throughout the working day, then I would say no - go for a good cell phone, and a good palm organizer. People who truly appreciate the merits of the Treo are on the go, traveling, have varying tasks & to do lists, etc. If this describes you, look into it. It's amazing!
