WHEN I TRY TO SYNC MY CENTRO WITH MY DELL, VIA BLUETOOTH I GET THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE ON MY CENTRO:unable to initiate hot sync operation because the port is in use by another application.

PLEASE HELP ME. IT WAS WORKING FINE A FEW DAYS AGO.

    THANKS
    MIKE LONG

    Welcome to Brighthand <he whispered>
What have you done, so far, to fix it? reboot computer? soft reset Centro? unpair/repair your computer and Centro?
have you added any new software?

no, soft reset doesn't delete data. on the Centro, a battery pull & replace will do the soft reset

Have you unpaired/re-paired the Centro & Dell? it sounds like something at the Dell side to me…

okay, not knowing what version of windows (is it windows?) you have, that part will be somewhat generic. in Win 7 Home Premium, I go to the Bluetooth icon in the system tray (that's where the clock is), right-click on it and select Show Bluetooth Devices (remember, this is a generic description!); when that window opens, I select the device in question and then right-click and pick remove it.

on the Centro (mine is for Sprint, but that shouldn't matter), go to Prefs, then Bluetooth, then Setup Devices; the next screen has a button for Trusted Devices -- tap that, pick your computer, tap Details, and on the next screen, tap Delete Device button.

I'm a lot more used to using Android over the last few years -- there, it is pair/un-pair; obviously, in Palm, it's Add Device/Delete Device. works out to be the same, in the end.

when you go to Add a device, be sure that both your Dell and the Centro are discoverable/can_be_seen_by_other_devices.

also, I noticed on the Setup Devices screen on the Centro, there is a HotSync Setup button -- that kicks off a guide, which may be helpful. Good luck!
