    Hey guys,

I've been researching phones for a while to replace my Samsung Stratosphere SCH-i405. I need a phone that will work with my father's family plan which I am under. I am willing to buy used, but is it safe to buy a used smartphone?

I don't want to spend more than $150.

Thanks, and sorry if I sound stupid and/or if this has been posted before,

    Sam

Might help to know who your father's carrier is. Also, what do you need out of your phone? If you want to consider new, look at the Moto E (2015, second gen) which is well below your ceiling and the Moto G (2015, third gen) which is slightly above your ceiling. Both are excellent low to mid-range phones. I just bought a Moto E for my wife and it really is a nice phone. You can probably get a more powerful phone used, but if you are mostly looking for basics, these two phones are a great value.

I believe the phone he was using was exclusive to Verizon.

In that case, the Galaxy Core Prime retails for $144 on Verizon postpaid, and the Moto E is only $69.99 prepaid. It also looks like Verizon has deals on pre-owned Galaxy S4 Minis on prepaid. You can pop in an existing Verizon SIM and use prepaid phones on a postpaid account.

I would go with the Moto X personally.. New, In your price range, and it sports amoled and I believe it has an upgrade to the latest android (or slated to get one).

    Or this Auction:

I believe those are all the same generation models for verizon but double check since I just did a fast search.
