98 people needed to survive 6,000-year journey to new planet
Harvard scientist offers alternative option: 'Carry their DNA blueprints and reconstruct them over there'

In the classic 1960s TV series "Lost in Space" – which was recently rebooted with an updated Netflix version – the tight-knit and small Robinson family is chosen to go on a ship to start a new life in a faraway space colony. But it seems truth is larger than fiction. In reality, it would take 98 people for humans to colonize another planet.

That figure comes from a new study by an astronomer and a physicist in France. Meanwhile, a physicist at Harvard has a better idea: Instead of transporting humans to the new planet, it would make more sense to carry their DNA blueprints and reconstruct them over there.

A little background is in order...

Russians advised to shower in pairs because of World Cup
MOSCOW - Residents of the World Cup host city of Samara are being urged to take showers in pairs because the influx of fans is putting strain on water supplies.

The Samara Communal Systems utility company says the combination of a heatwave and "thousands of guests" have meant its providing 10 percent more cold water than normal. That's causing water pressure to drop in some neighborhoods, the company adds.

The company advises locals to "save water - take showers in pairs," adding a smiley face to the message.

Samara is due to host England's quarterfinal game against Sweden on Saturday.

that makes it pseudo-self-cannibalistic then, yes? I mean, if the universe is composed of all the galaxies....

"Pseudo" means fake, which is not the case because the universe is indeed eating one part of itself. Just one part, though, meaning it's only involved. The galaxy otoh was committed.

digging more deeply, cannibalism doesn't apply:

per the above, ignoring the implication that the object of discussion is alive, then the consuming-universe and the consumed-galaxy are of the same species, meaning the 2 are equal, which they aren't.
